Located close to the changing waterfront part of Old Town Alexandria, this is a good spot to come for a bite or a drink. Parking is available for fee across the street. This restaurant has been around for a long time. I had a half...priced burger with bacon jam. The jam was a great condiment for my sandwich. My friend had the trout platter with mashed potatoes and spinach. They had shandy, which is beer mixed with lemonade. A mostly British drink. We had a good time. The restaurant has good decor and inside an ancient Alexandria building. Service was pretty good. It was friend's birthday and we were offered a free dessert.More
We really enjoyed this place. The location on the waterfront, the brick building with historic artifacts, the ambiance, the casual but excellent food leave a lasting impression. I had a special which was a fresh trout baked covered in cornmeal which was fantastic. My wife...had the crab cakes which were the best she had ever had. Our daughter got the burger, which was excellent. Very creative burger creations!More
Have not been here in a number of years. The neighborhood is really, really changing, but it's nice to see that this place is not. It's still good, easy to get to, easy to park, and good food and service.
We showed up about 20...minutes early for a Resy reservation, and were seated immediately.
There is ample parking right across the street. It's pay parking, $10 on a weekend night. There is additional parking nearby, within 1-2 blocks, also pay parking.
The location is good, just about on the waterfront, which situates it well for Olde Towne wandering before or after your visit. There is limited outside seating, but it's on a narrow sidewalk, and there can be some really obnoxious aircraft noise from planes on final to National airport.
Lots of choice to sit, either in the busy bar area, where there are booths, in the small side dining room with lots of original exposed masonry, or in the open area upstairs. In general, the seating is not that comfortable, hardwood throughout. The addition of some seat padding would be nice.
We started with nachos, both with meat and a vegetarian order. Both were outstanding. Haven't had really good nachos in a long time, and these were fantastic. The ultaimate test for nachos is that you end up with more nacho goop than chips, and both dishes totally passed. Fresh veg, good guac, plenty of mayo and cheese. We asked for onions on one, and got a very good helping of diced red onions. My daughter went with the chicken wings, which she said were good.
For mains we did the vegetarian mushroom stroganoff, a reuben sandwich, ribs, and two salads. All were very good. The mushroom stroganoof was quite good, the mushrooms cooked just right. The sauce was quite good, but there wasn't quite enough of it on the spiral noodles. The ribs were cooked well, came right off the bones, and were easy to eat with knife and fork. I asked for onion with the reuben, which I got. The corned beef was very tender and sliced very thin, so that it was not a chore to bite into it. Hand-cut fries came with the entrees, and were quite good.
We did not go for desserts.
Service was good throughout, although it seemed the wait staff was one or two persons short. We received what we asked for when we asked for it.
Bottom Line: Olde Towne Alex can be busy, but Chadwick's is fully accommodating. It's a staple, and still does everything right.More
Stopped for a late night happy hour. Our bartender was very attentive and friendly. Chadwicks is located in the historic Old Town area of Alexandria, not too far from the riverfront. Great happy hour prices and atmosphere!
