About
Elaine’s modern Mediterranean cuisine is based on exquisite food found in Alexandria, Egypt. The unique style is best described as Middle Eastern with French, Greek, and Italian influences. Elaine’s is located at 208 Queen Street, Alexandria, Virginia 22314. The 1880 building, the previous home of Bilbo Baggins for 38 years, has been completely renovated with a new look and feel. The restaurant is located in the heart of Old Town’s Historic District within sight of the Potomac River. Founders Park, The Torpedo Factory Art Center, and Old Town Alexandria Waterfront are only blocks away.

My wife and I had an incredible dining experience at Elaine’s. It was fine dining at its absolute best. Muna our waitress was amazing and very attentive. The owner explained the origins of certain dishes and ensured we had everything we needed during a particularly busy night. My wife doesn’t even like calamari but she raved about it- it was the best we had ever had. Light, crisp and exceptionally well seasoned. The Alexandrian heads on prawns, sofra platter and branzino were all fantastic! We will be back for more…

I went for brunch and participated in one of the literary events. Not only the food was absolutely great but I had the opportunity to hear a great author while there, meet very interesting and committed people. Service was wonderful and this is an unique setting and place in the neighborhood that gives a lot more than wonderful food

My wife Janice and I had our 31st wedding anniversary meal at this restaurant on Wednesday, October 30th, 2024. We had visited this space years ago when it was Bilbo Baggins but it was our first visit to Elaine's. It won't be our last visit. Our server Alicia was lovely. She was friendly and attentive and we enjoyed the Hibiscus Refresher cocktails she recommended. Our crispy calamari and grilled steak Shish were delicious. Janice and I loved the piped-in music featuring Frank Sinatra. I do have two constructive criticisms. One, at a certain point Alicia disappeared. The dirty dishes were piled on our table. We were planning to order coffee and dessert but when Alicia finally reappeared we just asked for the check and went elsewhere for dessert. Two, they need to do a better job of climate control. It was a nice day when we visited but the AC was set at an arctic level.

We went here with friends and had a very good experience. The food had a delicate, sophisticated, caring touch. We shared the mezzes which were all great and included not the ordinary hummus and dip plus much more. Our entrees were all good, I had the grilled cauliflower and it was great. It takes a lot to make a grilled cauliflower appetizing and this one was great. My only request is that they think about offering vegetarian mussaca.

My wife and I had an exceptional meal at Elaine’s. As usual Muna took care of us by being attentive and going above and beyond to make sure we have an amazing experience. Chef Sameer’s latest creations were delightful

A fantastic blend of Egyptian/Middle Eastern and continental offerings. Fresh, tasty, clever dishes, perfectly cooked and presented. A beautiful new room. Our new favorite restaurant in Old Town.

The atmosphere, food, and service were exceptional. We had the pleasure of meeting the head chef, Sameer Hunter. He is exceptionally talented, creative, and genuine. Would highly recommend to anyone dining with with friends or family!

I’ve now been to Elaine‘s three times, and I love it because Beatrice is a great bartender. Friendly and engaging, she made us feel so welcome that we keep going back. It’s been a fantastic reinvention for an old town favorite!

Great food, fresh and tasty, very vegetarian friendly. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere with excellent service. Staff are very welcoming and friendly. Very good wine and beer selection.
Would throughly recommend this restaurant.

Fantastic lunch in old town. Egyptian flavors with a fantastic chef. The weekend morning menu was a special brunch menu with lots of options. I had falafel wrap and it was the best I’ve had. Service was great.
