The Study at Morrison House offers a quiet restaurant within the Morrison House hotel. The best part is you can have some unique drinks including their take on a Manhattan which was quite smooth. You can also order upscale fare including lamb chops and scallops. The scallops were nicely seared. Appetizers include the oysters which tasted fresh with a touch of lemon. Finally, I had the creme brûlée which was prepared with a delightfully crusted exterior and custard inside. As with any upscale restaurant you will want to be a the Benjamins to pay for it.

I’m not big on guys singing Sinatra live in a bar, but otherwise the mood is pretty chill. But for food that is described so pretentiously on the menu and demands so a high a price, it was not an enjoyable experience. We only went with mains: the roast chicken and the steak and onions. The former came out cold, with no discernible seasoning on the chicken or potatoes. The steak was fine - as in the same as any other restaurant’s steak. Neither included any kind of vegetable which means you paid for a meal 50% composed of mostly flavorless potatoes. If you have money to spend on a nice meal, I’d spend it elsewhere in Old Town.

I was truly blown away by how delicious every single dish at The Study was. As a Guatemalan, I found the creative use of Latin American ingredients and flavors in the unique dishes at The Study not only interesting and creative but also familiar and nostalgic. I love it when food takes me to a happy place. Chef Tomas Chavarria and chef Madeline Guzman can really create magic in the kitchen. Some of my favorite dishes included the kalbi ssam short rib lettuce wraps, the sweet plantain empanadas, the Costa Rican ceviche, the duck magret and achiote, the tres leches, and the coffee flan. I also loved the seasonal cherry blossom inspired cocktail and the mocktail they prepared specially for me. I really loved the ambiance and even though I had dinner here with friends I think this is the perfect restaurant for a date night or for celebrating something special.

My wife and I were out running errands and passed the place--we went in for an early dinner and they found a table for us as it was early. This place is fantastic, a hidden gem, a multi-star restaurant in the making. it's small- about 23 seats, so reservations are recommended. We had the Costa Rican Ceviche and the Tuna Tartare for starters-- both were fresh, made with care, and traditional and innovative all at the same time. My wife had the Korabuta Pork belly, which she really liked due to the flavor and texture, while I had the Gallo Pinto bowel. If all vegetarian food could be like that, I'd eat a lot less meat. The drinks-- we started with a Lost World and a Beautiful Little Fool-- both were far better than some drinks we've paid much more for. I finished with a Goosebumps and my wife a Albarino-- the wine was super good and the drink as good as the previous ones. Grace was a superb server, and the decor is fun vintage with some fun touches (the chandeliers spin ever so imperceptibly). This was so much better than some Michelin places that we've spent a lot more money. All this incredibleness was $173, an absolute bargain anywhere for the fine touches and quality, but especially in the beltway.

The best bar in Old Town, hands down, and I’ve been to all of them. This bar competes with the best bars in DC. The drinks are imaginative. No short cuts. For the true cocktail enthusiast.

I chose this restaurant thinking it would be a lovely place to celebrate my birthday. First of all, the staff was very cordial, but the food was a disaster, no wonder there were so few people having dinner at this very drab restaurant. Chicken was dry, they charged nine dollars for four pieces of bread and butter. The steak had only cold, canned onions accompanying it with a tiny bit of potatoes. What a disappointment!!

I went into the Study to grab a Birthday drink and was told I had to leave. When I arrived I was asked if I was there to attend some sort o gathering and I said no, I am here to drink and was ushered in.. After I was there for about for 5 minutes an employee named Alexandra (?) came up to me an LOUDLY asked me if I was there for whatever event and I again said, no, I am here for a drink. The employee said loudly enough for those standing nears us to turn and look at us "This a private event and you should not be here" No one shared that with me when I came in and no signage expressed that as I arrived There was nothing to indicate the Bar was closed or there was a Private Event ongoing. I replied, "You could have told me that when I arrived and not embarrassed me in a roomful of people, Her response was "Have a nice day." Worst customer service I have had in all my years in Alexandria and I will happily tell everyone I met to never go to this hole and risk the public shaming I got from this useless and random employee.
