Enjoyed morning and afternoon coffee/pastries at the Cafe. The coffee was delicious and the owner was wonderful and personable. He stayed open late so we could grab an afternoon coffee. He asked about our morning and gave us recommendations for local happy hour spots. We...will be going back to grab a bag of coffee beans before leaving town.More

Dined for week day lunch twice during the month and was impressed on both occasions. Place was full both times which is always a good sign. Great selection of French inspired cafe style food that is well prepared and delicious.

I agree about the so called “ Covid fee”. I also only noticed the 10% charge after I returned home. That is ridiculous! I don’t believe it was clear on the menu at all! Will not return to this restaurant just for that! And by...the way, I didn’t believe the tables are even wiped down after the customers get up. Our table had crumbs all over.More

The restaurant and sidewalk seating were crowded at midday on a Saturday and there was a 15 minute wait for a table. The menu is long but only certain things are available at lunch on weekends. The waitress was uncertain about what could be ordered...and had to go and ask which was a little surprising. She found out that we could only order from Brunch and Crepes section of the menu on Saturday which was fine. My husband ordered the Tuscan crepe and I ordered the breakfast bruschetta. After a 15 minute wait the orders came out and they brought the wrong order to me. My husband started his crepe and after about 5 minutes my correct order finally came out. Mine was completely cold and flavorless despite the pancetta. My husband said his tasted terrible. We were pressed for time so we added salt (which I never do) ate our meals and asked for the check. The waitress came out with a tablet computer open to the tip page with 20% checked in advance. Since we were in a hurry I simply signed and asked for a receipt. I had never even seen the breakdown or total. She delivered a paper receipt and the cost was $60 for two tasteless, simple meals, one soft drink and the tip. Fontaine is apparently popular judging by the crowd on a Saturday but, needless to say, we wont return. The only person who delivered good service was the cheerful maitre d' who did a good job of managing the waiting list for tables.More

I have been to La Fontaine twice in the past and had pleasant experiences until 2 days ago. The hostess, Carmen was rude, terse and dismissive seeming to only "See" people of a particular persuasion. I informed her that she was seating someone else a...head of me. ( I was in front of the line). She responded, " I saw him "and made no effort/attempt to be hospitable and temper the situation. Instead of offering to seat me and my friends once our table was cleared, she approached curtly asking if some scribbled word on her notepad was my name. My name is phonetic and quite easy to spell, but for some reason, not only couldn't she see me, but she could not hear me either. Our server attempted to mitigate things stating that there was a language barrier, however, Carmen seemed to engage very well with whom she wished. Such an attitude should not be held by a hostess working anywhere, but especially in a multicultural town as Alexandria. Such an attitude should not be tolerated by such a business. Carmen should not be working as a hostess because she lacks the grace, and finesse held by the other restaurant staff. She is off-putting and unfortunately does not reflect the reputation of the La Fontaine restaurant of a few years ago. I will not be returning.More

We were seated outside and the woman seating us was a bit distracted. We arrived around opening for dinner service around 5:30pm. Our server was good, and the pea soup was delicious, but the basket of bread was a bit stale—disappointing since we had not...eaten lunch and would had enjoyed the bread more. The second bread basket served with our entrees was heated and much more tasty. The trout with rosemary was delicious and served with a spinach side salad. The steak frittes was good served with a mixed green salad and the fries were nice and hot and perfectly seasoned. We definitely plan to return to try different items and the menu.More

The experience is ok. It does feel like a French bistro. My friends enjoyed their meals. Apparently the farmers market crepe is tasty. The Moroccan crepe that I had was not great and I don't recommend it. My biggest issue though was that I ordered...and received a bottle of Spanish Rioja which cost $32. I was charged for a bottle of Cotes du Rhone which is $40. I did not realize this erroneous charge until after I arrived home. In addition, this restaurant is charging what I believe to be a steep 10 percent COVID surcharge. That means I was charged 10% on a more expensive bottle than what I ordered.More

We had a family visit to taste sweet crepes but it was a bit of disappointment. Crepes were served cold, that implies prefabrication. We tasted the GRAND CHOCOLATE, the SUNDAE AFTERNOON and the BELLA. The appearance of the plates is ranked high. The GRAND CHOCOLATE...one, is not grand and it's not as (dark) chocolate as described at the menu. The taste at the mouth was the dough, not the chocolate. Even the dark chocolate layer you could see at the plate was so little, serving for decoration purposes only (2.5/5). The other two were tasteful (4/5).More

Love how Fontaine has adapted to the C-19 restrictions by creating tented table areas for guests outside and plenty of space between customer’s tables inside. My son loved the Brioche French Toast and my Tuscan crepe was heartily delicious! Also compliments on the fresh and...tasty side salad. Our server, Sam, was very attentive and ensured we were well taken care of. Can’t wait to return!More

During the brunch rush, the food is worth the wait. Seating is first come first served, and staff are very attentive about wiping down tables and chairs, and disinfecting the laminated 'menus', which are QR codes that you scan on your phone. I ordered the...pan fried trout, which was very fresh and tasty. The outdoor seating was great, and it's on a relatively low traffic street so you don't have to worry about tons of people walking by you as you eat.More

Over priced & underwhelmed! We dinned outdoors at Fontaine - sweet crepes were excellent, savory and sandwiches were just ok and portions were small. Additionally they charged and extra “tax” that after further research was illegal. I get restaurants charging a surcharge or COVID recovery....But to disguise as a tax is not good!More

Very safe indoor dining, combined with street dining as well. Very quaint interior design, France for sure! The spinach and feta rolled into a buckwheat crepe was delicious and filling. The vegetable crepe was like ratatouille on an open faced crepe. Both crepes came with...a lightly dressed very fresh green salad. The salmon platter was very good as well. Plenty of salmon accompanied with a scrambled egg and traditional trimmings. Bloody Mary was nicely seasoned.More

We had crepes for dinner and the service, price and food was very good. I had a berry crepe and asked for coconut ice cream instead of the pecan ice cream it came with. It was very good!
