My husband and I spent the weekend in Abingdon to celebrate a milestone birthday. We ate at the Tavern Friday and it was a fabulous experience. Chris was our server and he was attentive and provided wonderful recommendations for food, drinks, breakfast and the Creeper...Trail. The food was superb. I ordered the baked salmon and my husband had the trout. The wine and bourbon selection are on-point. Finally, the atmosphere was wonderful. We were able to enjoy ourselves in a unique setting without numerous interruptions from our server. My one recommendation is inform guests that they may be seated outside when they make a reservation. We made our reservation months before and it was a chilly night when we dined. They had heaters, but we had to keep our coats on the entire meal! Chris honestly saved this experience. Ask for him if you visit the Tavern.More
Ate here twice while enjoying the area and the Creeper Trail. Delicious food, great service. Take time to enjoy the Tavern’s history. Street parking was not a problem either time. Price for quality was fine for my husband and me. Definitely going again when we...visit again.More
Loved this place. We came from SC to stay a week and looked for places to eat. I always look at the 1-3 star reviews first. Some made the management and hostess sound snobby and unfriendly. Some said it took 2 hours to get your...food, some said they did not have reservations,hmmm...First, the staff were unbelievably friendly. Josh the manager was super nice! They greeted us with huge smiles. Second, it states on their menu that it can take up to 2 hours to get your food so that was no surprise. Even with the crowd, it was super quick. Third, they require reservations. If you walk in without one, they may not be able to seat you. They are a very popular restaurant. We were there on Halloween so I was not surprised they were so busy. Beautiful old building and our waitress Emily was dressed as the manager Josh and Omgosh, on point! I would have thought she was a guy until she spoke and her long fingernails gave her away. The pic of her as Josh is the one with the nametag. There is a pic included of Miss Emily below and she is a beauty. The real Josh is dressed as a pirate. That being said, you have to visit this very old house with so much history. But, make those reservations and you won't be dissatisfied or disappointed!!!More
This was the best meal I have had in years. The filet was amazing as was the brie, and crème bru le for dessert. Mostly German dishes, which were impressive. We sat on the balcony outside in the warm evening air. MUST have reservations and...book a day or two ahead.More
My wife & I ate here for the first time on October 10, 2020 for our 31st anniversary. The atmosphere & the food was absolutely outstanding! Ezra, our waiter, was exceptional. He gave us some interesting history of the building and his service, manners, and...knowledge of the menu were excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal: the Norwegian Smoked Salmon appetizer followed by the French onion soup; then came our dishes of Kassler Rippchen and Jagerschnitzel. Dessert was Tiramisu & Creme Brulee (the best ever!) Oh my! This is definitely on the list of places we plan to visit again.More
I had a fabulous dinner of Norwegian Smoked Salmon Appetizer, the freshest of salads & a delicious Grilled Trout. The NY Style Cheesecake with Caramel sauce was a perfect ending to a night of culinary delights. When there were no Uber’s available to return me...to my hotel, Mrs Fuller volunteered and drove me herself. What a special night it turned out to be!!
I highly recommend this lovely Historic Tavern, their delectable cuisine and it’s warm, welcoming staff.More
Oysters Rockefeller appetizer was very tasty, Caesar salad & garden salad were excellent with house made dressings, scallops & polenta cakes were spectacular! Stuffed filet was very tasty, the blueberry cheesecake was great & the creme brûlée was perfection!!!
And the martinis were spot...on!
Definitely worth a trip to this beaut gem from 1779!More
Great experience Cool place to visit. The old building is full of history make reservations. We sat upstairs and were greeted by a friendly helpful server. The Jagerschnitzle was very good and the beef medallions were excellent. We also had the no flour chocolate cake...and loved it. I highly recommend this restaurant! We will be backMore
Yes, there is a bar in there- a small one. The night we were there it was not crowded & you could have sat there... but, based on above response, they may have the right idea about going elsewhere to sit at the bar first.
As I recall, the portions weren't particurally large. My wife and I both had a selection from the German dishes and they were great. The management is very friendly and I'm sure that they'd agree to sharing anything. I'd... More
As I recall, the portions weren't particurally large. My wife and I both had a selection from the German dishes and they were great. The management is very friendly and I'm sure that they'd agree to sharing anything. I'd suggest a good appetizer to share and then sharing a dinner.
