Had a group dinner there. This is the closest thing to Ketchum's "Pio" in Little Cottonwood Canyon. It's an Alta institution. Warm dark interior on the "rustic" side. The food is more interesting than one would expect. And yes, they have kale. Elk chop is the way to go. The receptionist appeared to be having a bad day. We felt... More

Just recently had my second visit to The Shallow Shaft....it was every bit as good and memorable as the first time that I was here several years ago. The food is first class second to none in the area. I had the Cassoulet with andouille sausage and duck and it was fantastic. I also had a warm Kale salad (where... More

This was definitely the best meal we had all weekend while at Snowbird. You can a free shuttle form Snowbird to Alta. It's a small restaurant so I would probably make a reservation if possible. Very cozy and unpretentious. The trout cakes were delicious. The lobster gnocchi was good too but not as good as the trout cakes. The caesar... More

Resort pricing, good staff, good food (better one of the two nights we went), good wine list (resort prices) and nice ambiance.

Lilian and I thoroughly enjoyed a spectacular five course wine 🍷-paired feast, spectacularly created by Executive Chef Cole Hunt, sponsored by Duckhorn Wineries (they have many, one for each varietal, according to Duckhorn's representative Zach Rasmuson, who hosted the evening, at the Shallow Shaft restaurant at Alta, not to be missed if you're in the Salt Lake City area, and... The Bison steak was out of this world so much better than filet lighter not gamey. The Caesar salad was delicious with perfect amount of clean tart dressing. The menu is unique and I took a pause when reading it. But every time I go there no matter what i choose it's delicious, healthy with freshest ingredients. The service is... More

Do not come to the area and leave this off your list. Outstanding on every level. Superior wines decanted at your table. Highest quality ingredients for delicious meals. Warm and attentive staff. You will not be disappointed.

It appears this place has new ownership. My wait was long, over 20 min for the food, and it was bad value for money, the main dish, duck, tasted like $ 20, but cost me 45. Won't go back.

This restaurant is a must visit if you are in Salt Lake City, and especially in Alta/Snowbird. It is a very unpretentious place with some of the best food and drink you will ever enjoy. Our family had the rabbit and rattlesnake cassoulet, the house made pasta, striped bass, pork shank and black cod, along with some great beer and... More
