We decided to try this place yesterday for take out. It was the only Chinese Restaurant open on New Years Day.
We had sesame shrimp, soft noodles with barbecue pork and stir fried green beans. We've never eaten at this place before and weren't sure how the food would be. We were very pleasantly surprised.
The shrimp were piping hot and cooked just perfectly. The soft noodle dish (similar to Lo Mein) was delicious and the green beans were cooked and spiced just perfectly. Everything we had was really tasty and we'll definitely get food here again.

My spicy shrimp dish was good. The hot and sour soup was ok. My husband liked the garlic chicken. Our waitress was very informative and she was fantastic!

New management and new chef. Outstanding Sezchuan cuisine. The hot and sour soup was soft, spicy and vinegary - a great combo. The dumplings in sezchuan sauce held up to the mildly spicy sauce. The surprise of the crispy spicy chicken which led with the aromatic sezchuan aroma and then enveloped the chicken with salt and pepper was addictive. Finally, the beef in soft noodle had a brown depth coating the perfectly cooked noodles. Wow!

You ever eat at a place and have that quiet realization that you could’ve been eating there for a long time if you had just noticed it? That’s the case with Chen Z, an unassuming spot in a strip mall in Southwest Austin. We tried a lot of the menu: spicy wontons, fried wontons, egg rolls, House Special Crispy Chicken, Curry Chicken, Fried Rice, General Tso, water spinach, and other delicious items. Let me tell you. Everything was so tasty. We can’t wait to come back and try the other half of the menu.

I am so, so sorry new owners of Chen Z, but that was one of the worst things I have ever had to eat in my life. Chen Z, the original one, used to have this amazing soup, the flavor was SO delicious!!! Tonight, I walked into Chen Z expecting everything to be the same, but they have NEW owners!
It was so much fun to be seated and get ice in our iced tea, I was optimistic about the new owners, but also worried, would the food be as delicious? I personally think it is very hard to mess up Chinese food, I mean, even bad Chinese food can be quite delicious, right?
But no.
I ordered the same thing I would always get at Chen Z, rice noodle soup, tonight i tried the "House Special."
What was given to me was like a bowl of water with lots of red stuff in it for flavor (yet no flavor). None. It had so many veggies and some shrimp and some "seafood." It just didn't taste like anything and I couldn't eat it.
My husband had chicken fried rice and he liked it, he liked how it tasted like the "gyro rice" from the carts in NYC. I tried it, it did have that nostalgic gyro rice flavor that wasn't bad.
Still, this was not good!!! I am deeply disappointed and I can't see myself going back. I used to go to Chen Z two nights in a row!
The new Chen Z has a new menu, very standard Chinese food items on the menu. It is entirely different from what it used to be.
I feel very sorry to write this because the people working there were extremely nice.

Have had delicious rice noodle soup at Chen Z, it was perfect, really, my husband has had the noodles with chicken and vegetables and the lamb with noodles, he loved both dishes. He also loves their scallion pancakes and dumplings. I would love it if they could have a few more gluten free options.

We have family in Dripping Springs and visit several times a year. We have yet to find a good Chinese restaurant in the area! When we heard about this place, we were excited and just have to try it. Mostly a take-out place, we ordered their pork belly bun, steamed dumplings and pork stir fried noodles. They were quite good but not excellent for my husband and I who are lucky enough to enjoy some outstanding Chinese restaurants where we live. However, our Dripping Springs family truly enjoyed them so that made it worthwhile for us to have tried this place.

In a very modest setting, Chen Z serves great food that typifies the dishes of northern China. The hand cut noodles are succulent and the spring onion pancakes are exceptional. The meats are prepared so that they are tender in or out of a soup. The sauces and rubs do come across slightly grainy but the complex, subtle flavors make the food a great experience. Don't look for Kung Pao here.

A last minute choice to eat here. In this part of town and wanted Chinese food. Search pointed us to this place. I would say it is more a noodle shop than anything else. The menu is a bunch of picture on the wall. Have about 20 meals. Nothing over $9. The portions are large. You order at the counter and they give you a number to put on your table. Bottle water, can soft drinks are available. Or a jug of water. Our meals were a tad too salty for our taste. As we don't live in this part of town I don't think we would make a special trip to come here. However, we would consider if back in the area.

Well I don't know that I can give this a real evaluation but my wife and I found ourselves in the area at lunch time and I was hungry for Chinese food. Not much choices in the area and this one had good reviews and was reviewed as a little different so I wanted to give it a try. My wife wasn't feeling very well all she wanted was a small bowl of wonton soup and an egg roll and of course they had neither one so I ordered the bowl and she ate what she wanted. It was good but no better than I get at some of my favorite Chinese restaurants as appetizers. I think I prefer the regular Chinese. I like egg rolls and fried wonton. Not likely I will find myself in this area for lunch again but if I do I would want to try one of the noodle dishes, they all looked good in the pictures.

Great place we ate the spicy lamb skewers, the dumplings, the leek bread and a pork and leek dish with noodles. It bought us back to our trip to China. The lamb had sichuan spices and there were several other sichuan dishes that we didn't try. The noodles looked like flying noodles. Anybody looking for authentic Chinese should try this no nonsense place.

This is a good place to get noodle dishes unlike the usual Chinese fare. Their steamed dumplings are very good as are their pancakes. Prices are very reasonable.
