Menu was scanned onto phone with fairly large menu. The sushi rolls were fresh and tasty. The salmon dinner had a huge filet that was charbroiled. The rice and bokchoy were good too. The teriyaki sauce was separate thankfully as it was strong and salty....The Hangar steak was tough and the dish was swimming in a salty, strong, charred tasting sauce. We didn't know there were asparagus under the steak as it was buried under the terrible sauce. It would be better to have the sauce on the side. The lychee martini was very delicious. It was sweet, yet tasted refreshing. If anything, I would order the martini again.More
Corishy’s Fire w/cream cheese and avo, tempura crunch and cucumber which were deep fried Shaggy Dog w/tempura crunch and eel sauce Chicken Gyoza Dumplings were extremely good!! HIGHLY recommend!
I love their rolls and apple martinis. A really great deal for reverse happy hour if you can get a seat
The food was better than I was hoping for. We ordered a lot of items from the happy hour many and there were still plenty of options. Ask for Maryann, her excellent and sincere service will enhance your experience and I swear my food tastes...with excellent service.More
Lively spot on W 6th street. The usual Japanese beers but on tap, which is nice. Had the steamed pork/shrimp dumplings and a spicy chili dipping sauce, very tasty. The udon beef bowl, equally tasty and the hamachi (amberjack) sashimi was fresh and buttery. Recommended.
We love Maiko! They have one of the best sushi happy hours in the entire city - with a large percentage off of a lot of items. We love to start with stuffed jalapenos and Kani Avocado Salad, then get some bomb Ngiri, with main...rolls from Orange Dragon to Chorishi's Fire to Explosivo. They are also one of the few places in Austin that serve my favorite Nigori - Momokawa "Pearl" Nigori. Always exceptional service, I highly recommend Maiko for all your sushi needs!More
Just received a delivery from Maiko via Favor. Favor was quick, no issues. None of the normal concern about delivery as there's no conflict with dining room. As a special treat, couldn't be more dissapointed. The portions were ridiculously small, by nigiri standards, let alone...sashimi plates. I've never seen pieces that small, and I've traveled over 4 million miles. For $50 for one person, one specialty roll and one combination sashimi plate with ten pieces should be reasonably filling. In this current crisis, we all need to be generous, but tonight I felt like Maiko is rationing food and hoping to just get away with it. Shame. Shame. Shame. If this is all Maiko can do, then just close doors and we'll hope for a better product in the summer.More
Nothing to wow, just a solid Asian restaurant with standard offerings. Their rolls were somewhat smaller than expected, and thus perhaps a bit pricey, especially outside of the happy hours. They have a lot of Chinese dishes as well on top of sushi.
The menu appeared to be easy on sushi newbies, w/plenty of pork, chicken, tempura, etc., which normally would mean average sushi. The reality was surprising. We had some great selections of sushi--fresh, and I'll toss in one thing I normally only bring up when bad--the...rice for the sushi was particularly good--enough it stood out, which is pretty cool--not in a weird way, though--I mean sushi rice is sushi rice flavor-wise, but this seemed to somehow carry just a liitle bit more of that same flavor under the fish. The bartender was attentive, friendly, and our different items came out quickly. The Sake Mac&Cheese I ordered for giglles (who makes mac at a sushi place?) was outstanding. Nice vibe here--we'll be back to explore more in the near future. Kirin and Saporro on-tap!More
My husband and I were in Austin for a few days. This was our 2nd time coming here. It was kind of late, had a hour before closing, and they still seated us. We ordered the short spare ribs from the happy hour menu, and...two other rolls, and also some spicy edeme . The food was very well cooked, the ribs came out fresh and hot which we loved. This place never disappoints. Even after all that had 20 min to closing and our service still offered us desert which we couldn’t turn down. Love that! We didn’t feel rush at all. Definitely our go to spot when coming to Austin!More
This was the best place we ate in Austin. Jonathan was the best server we’ve ever had at a restaurant period. We actually walked past the window looking at other people’s food and decided to go in. Each item was better than the last. We...started off with the stuffed jalapeños then tiger eye then on to the chrisizo roll ( not sure of the spelling). We split all of these of course and then split the hanger steak. Ended our meal with the fried cheesecake. Awesome meal. I would highly recommend this place and will definitely go back.More
Great service. Nice accommodations Old time brick walls with wood plank floors Combination of Chinese and Japanese items on the menu I.e. shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings, and pork soup dumplings (xiao long bao) on the appetizer and sushi items throughout. Very flavorful Recommended
Ok. I’m copying another reviewers title but he’s spot on. The rice was not great. It was mushy, like it was too wet. Gave the rolls an overall not great taste. And the rolls in general, just so so. The seaweed salad was like seaweed...salad anywhere in the world; it all tastes the same. The gyoza was tasty, and was the best thing we ate. But it was served on a bed of roughly shredded red cabbage which was turning brown. On the bright side, the waitress was friendly and efficient, and kept our water glasses full on this hot Texas day. But even though she did a great job, we won’t be back. We’ve had sushi all over the world, and this rates as one of our worst experiences.More

One of the most important part of a great sushi roll is rice. Rice is not good here, will be surprised if sushi rice is used. It’s all mushy, over cooked and lack of hint of Japanese vinegar. Seafood quality is ok. It’s comparable to...high end grocery store sushi.More
