Trying to support most of our favorite Austin restaurants during the COVID-19 pandemic, the three of us decided to order from Shoal Creek's online Curbside Pickup menu. While we usually enjoy one of their etouffee or gumbo entrees on their creekside deck, two of us...decided to try their chicken fried steak platter. But, more about that later. The online ordering process was the smoothest part of the experience. We requested a pick up time about 45 minutes from our ordering time. After receiving order and pick up time confirming emails, I drove to the restaurant, arriving over 15 minutes early. Parking just outside the entrance., I looked for curbside pickup instructions (e.g., a number to text my order number, parking location and vehicle type to, etc.) Unfortunately, there were no special instructions for curbside pickup, as there are with many restaurants and other businesses that we have frequented during the various pandemic rules periods. About ten minutes before my order was supposed to be ready for pickup, I masked up and went inside. My order was sitting on the counter, ready at least ten minutes ahead of time. I was home and unpacking our meals in about 8 minutes. The food was still warm, not piping hot, but acceptable. The first thing we noticed was that there was no cream gravy, as advertised on the menu. CFS without cream gravy is not a complete entree. Secondly, the chicken fried steak was not tenderized enough, it was too thick, and it was overcooked. It was also tough enough to require a steak knife to cut. A well prepared CFS is fork tender. The green beans were cooked to just before al dente, in other words not enough. They also required a serrated knife to cut and were almost inedible because of their toughness. Finally, the mashed potatoes had most of their potato flavor covered up with bacon drippings. All in all, this was a very disappointing dinner and our worst Austin curbside pickup experience, especially since it was really their regular Take Out service, under a different label. If Shoal Creek Saloon is going to make it, they are going to have to improve in all areas of their service and product.More

While we waited outside for our table, we had a beautiful view of Shoal Creek. We chose to eat outside because the weather was beautiful. I ordered the Crawfish Pot Pie and it was delicious!

This place is the real deal! Dining inside and out in nice weather. A real saloon with a lot of TVs and excellent food! Loved the crawfish boil....you do it by the pound; excellent etoufee; and terrific chicken fried steak....complete with mashed and white gravy....Perfect! Nice local beers on tap; really nice staff; very reasonable! Don’t miss this place! A little bit of chicken fried, cold beer on a Friday night....just like the Zac Brown song goes.....More

I have driven past this place literally hundreds of times over the years and finally managed to stop in and check it out. We sat in the bar area (sports on TV) and were pleased with our food. The gumbo was very tasty, and the...catfish was also done right. Service was pleasant and quick. There is a small parking area and outdoor seating form nicer weather. Can't wait to go back to try their pork chop special!More

I was recommended this place and their crawfish by some Austin experts I met at SXSW. We got there at 19:30, but they were already out of crawfish. We decided to stay and try the other dishes. The food took around 45-60 minutes, with no...apologies for the delay from the staff. Me and my partner had gumbos, and I really wished we didn't. They were totally tasteless, like water with brown color, filled with soggy rice and rather bland shrimps. It was so bad that I for the first time ever almost refused to pay for the food. I can't remember the last time I was this disappointed when eating out. I hope the crawfish are good, cause the gumbo soups are not.More

We entered when it opened at 11:00 to watch LSU hoops and you could hear a pin drop. By the time we left, it was packed and you couldn't hear the TVs. Fun place to watch LSU sports. 13" oyster poboy was great and about...$5 cheaper than Baton Rouge or Nola! Great selection of beer and many there were tearing into boiled crawfish. Service was good - thanks Emma!More

They close at 11:00 but at 8:30 they were already out of crawfish. We placed an order for shrimp to help with the cravings. It is almost 10:00 pm and they still have not brought the shrimp out. When I asked the waiter he replied,...“well you will get them free” like I am asking or in need of anything “free”. I will not recommend this place at all, horrible customer service and the food isn’t all that great waiter.More

Have lived within blocks of Shoal Creek Saloon for 30 years. Because my husband doesn't think he likes cajun food, we haven't gone to eat there for many many years. Just had a guest from out of town and husband was not going to join...us so we tried it. What a great surprise. We shared the pork chops (house specialty) and the garlic Shrimp over rice (also a house specialty). Pork chop was so huge would barely fit on the plate and was delicious. Shrimps were perfectly spiced and cooked and the sauce over them and the rice was just delicious. It will NOT be so long before I go back and now I'm going to tell all my friends to go. By the Way it is also affordable!More

Louisiana style food. Service was pretty good as well as the food. I ordered the 1lb smoked pork chop. Some nice scenery in the back outside patio.
