It seemed very popular, but we were underwhelmed. The meat was okay. Pulled pork was good. Brisket had good flavor but wasn’t very tender. Same with the ribs. The biggest disappointment was the sauce. It was very thin and had very little flavor (which was...really surprising). It was probably my least favorite bbq sauce ever. Our favorite side was the fried okra. The others were fine, but nothing special. Next time in Amarillo, we’d go somewhere else.More
I moved to Amarillo from the metroplex about ten years ago and am originally from southeast Texas I've had a lot of good (and not so good) bar-b-que in my 67 years. Dyers is among the best in my opinion. I go there often. The...food and service are consistently great, and unlike most bar-b-que restaurants there is wait staff instead of a line. The portions are large, the sauce good ant their smoke prime rib on weekends great. For non bar-b-que eaters they have other dishes among which my personal favorite is the chicken fried steak. The blackberry cobbler is terrific. I've seen a few negative reviews on this site and do not understand them, but my wife and I (plus extended family and friends heartily recommend Dyers.More
My mom and I stopped here, and we both enjoyed it! The service was SO FAST!! We shared the Cowboy special (got the brisket, pulled pork, and ribs), and we both left full! Everything was delicious, but my favorites were the pulled pork and cole...slaw!More
Traveling thru and stopped for a couple of nights in Amarillo. We met a couple of friends for dinner at Dyer's. This restaurant has a wonderful Texas atmosphere and is decorated with many old photos and relics. Each of us ordered something different and all...were very happy with their choice. I had the BBQ beef basket with potato salad. The beef was chunks of very tasty, tender meat. The potato salad was just like homemade. This was accompanied by the apricot sauce and bread. I ended the meal with a perfect cherry cobbler and ice cream. Wow! That was a good meal.More
First of ,not sure how Texas bbq is . I love bbq and all grilled meat , but I want to experience the different taste of it .
Picked the place because of reviews and we pass the first one by the highway because we...missed it.
It looked like they have regular patrons there because they all seem to know each other .
On this roadtrip I was really hoping to have a one of a kind Texas bbq and not one like Texas Roadhouse . ( we are a Roadie all the way)
Husband suggested the 3 meat not realizing it’s all you can eat but can not have them to go . Anyways protein is not a problem for me as long as it’s great.
Tasted the jalapeño sausage , spicy but good . Brisket is dry and no taste . And ribs are ok . I wonder if it’s should be served hot ? Must say I enjoyed the onion rings though.
We tried and ask if we can take home some and waitstaff politely decline . Which is ok . Didn’t want to waste them .
But hey next time we’ll try somewhereMore
We had a take-out dinner from Dyer’s Bar-B- Que during a recent visit to Amarillo. We picked this place because this appeared to be a longstanding local favorite. We called ahead for a takeout. The person answering the phone was very helpful and patient with...me. The restaurant is located in a mixed use complex just off Interstate 40. The place was packed with dozens of people waiting to get in for in-person dining. Our dinner was ready for pick up when we arrived. The person making the transaction was the same person who answered the phone, and he was extremely courteous and friendly in person as well. The food was absolutely delicious and the price was very reasonable. The hubby had the beef brisket and I had the prime rib. We highly recommend this place.More
First visit with local friends, kept it simple with 1 cat fish platter, and 3 rib platters. Ribs were perfect! Dry rubbed and well done. Sides of potato salad and beans and giant onion rings well complemented each other. $10 tshirts for the out of...towners. Its well worthy of a repeat visit.More
