Ate here with my family on 2/15/23. Arrived at 730 they were closing at 8. Walked in they were not busy, waited for one minute to be acknowledged or offered to be seated, no big deal. Ordered two appetizer dishes. When the appetizers were brought...over I literally had to go chase someone down for silverware and napkins. No appetizer plates were brought so all family members would take a bite and place their half eaten food back onto the plate it was served on. Community appetizer plates is not what I am into. Other option was to get up once again and go chase someone down to request individual appetizer plates. I didn’t want to have to keep asking. In addition, we were all drinking water only. I had to ask twice for water refills, no one came around and offered even once. Dinner was brought over. Tater tots were on my husbands plate. No ketchup was offered, or suggested. No one asked if we would like ketchup. Isn’t that what most servers would offer? I had to catch someone walking by to ask for it along with a water refill. Service is awful for what would be expected considering the price paid for the food. Very disappointing and annoying. Food was good, restaurant was clean, and atmosphere was relaxing. Servers act oblivious to what good customer service is. Will not be back if that is the price I will pay for poor quality service. Would not recommend if you are expecting a higher quality of service to be provided. If you want to ask for every single thing needed to make it an enjoyable experience then this is the place to visit.More

It feels like this place never recovered from COVID. The menu has been paired waaay down compare to a few years ago (what happened to the pizza and mani-mani sandwich) and the service was pretty week. The service aspect didn’t bother me to much, but...the menu seems super uninspired. I want to see this restaurant succeed but I won’t be going back until I see some something more interesting on their menu (I don’t do burgers which seemed like main thing on the menu). Please bring back real pizza! (They did have “flat bread” but that isn’t pizza.)More

Seemed like the staff just wanted to close even though we were there well before closing; a slow night but not as slow as the service. Never did get water even though requested. They left the chicken off my wife's salad even though she was...charged for it; never saw a waitress after meal was served so not much we could do. Beer was goodMore

I visited here for the first time yesterday. My best friend took me there for dinner. I had a burger with fries which was excellent. We also shared chips, salsa and guacamole. All were scrumptious. The service was great. The atmosphere was friendly. I would definitely...go back.More

Poor customer service and disappointing food! Not sure what happened to Caldera, but it has rolled down the hill. You are instructed (ordered by the grumpy host) to order through an app, if sitting outside. As soon as we followed the ordering procedure, a couple...sat at the next table and the waitress took their order directly??? They obviously were phone savvy as the couple spent the next few minutes on their phones. Will not return--the customer service ruins the good taste of the beer. Go to Gils or Skout downtown--fabulous customer service, excellent food and great beer selections.More

The atmosphere is nice and the decor is befitting its name. The drinks were good and the food service was great. A must stop going through Ashland.

Tried this place out for the first time this last week and was pleasantly surprised by the beer selection! The tap handle wall was pretty cool. It was pretty hard to pick a beer so we sampled quite a few and ended up with the...Ashland Amber. We didn't have time for more than one so we will definitely be back next time we are in town.More

Ordering is now done through an app similar to a shopping cart where you pick and choose from menu items and then pay with a credit card. Not entirely sure what happens if you A. don't have a smartphone or B. want to pay with...cash. It wasn't what I considered to be a fun experience and would've been a lot quicker and easier to just give the hostess our order, but this is apparently the new reality. I mentioned it to the hostess and she told me that, apparently, other customers love the system and, besides, they only have new, inexperienced employees so this is supposed to be a good thing. I didn't necessarily agree, but it seemed to me like she really didn't care. Overall, the food was okay and we received it pretty fast. But the place was not very crowded for lunch either. Further, since there were no servers, we were never asked if everything was okay nor were we asked if we wanted a refill on our drinks until we were ready to leave. That, in my view, was unacceptable for a business lunch. I don't think I'll be going back. Several observations: 1. In the time it took the hostess to explain how the system worked, she could have taken our order five times. 2. The application is hosted and you need to enter personal information like name and email address. The hosting company (Toast) gets to gather valid contact information, which it is probably going to sell. This might very well be part of its agreement with participating restaurants. So, I'm expecting even more spam emails now. Oh joy! 3. The app assumes you want to add a 20% gratuity, which you can change if you're paying attention. But when I go out for a meal, I like to be served. That's what I'm paying for. This was a little too much like work for the cost of the meal combined with what I considered to be a lower level of service. Just my 2 cents.More

We stopped at Caldera with two couples to have a nice Friday evening dinner. We were surprised at the atmosphere and the digital ordering. It was terrible. We go to dinner to have an experience, not a assembly line cafeteria dinner. The wait staff was...distant and the service was terrible. Our friend ordered a cocktail, never received it and the staff blamed her for the way she ordered it. Instead of remedying the problem they made her feel like she should have not gotten a drink. Covid is an issue, but if you are going to serve like this, rethink why you opened.More

Limited food menu, but the burger was good. Beer is the focus. Only two wines by the glass and a few by the bottle. Service was impersonal and ordering was DIY. You have to order via smartphone, give them your email and enter a credit...card number. At least they do bring your food and don’t expect you to bus your own table. Given the minimal service I was slightly offended by the software’s default 18% tip. (It can be changed. )More

They are going through the process of trying to be open and in business with limited staff with limited abilities. I suggest that you bypass this business until things settle down and they know what they are doing. You have to order on your phone,...set up an account and navigate a confusing application to get service. After fussing and cussing through the convoluted app, I ended up ordering double beer orders, then my hub ordered his meal on his phone before I was ready ending the possibility that we'd get our meals together. I was put into such of horrible mood with this process - nothing looked good on the menu by then. We decided to just drink our beers and go elsewhere. But NO! The pasta dish arrived at the table! And LOOK! They forgot to prepare the entree with the promised bacon. A minute or two LATER, the bacon is brought to the table on a plate (obviously cooked as an afterthought). I guess we were suppose to crumble it up and stir it into the pasta to recreate the original dish. NO. Sorry. They politely took it off the bill, and we paid via the app and left. I did zero out the tip amount. Forget this nonsense. Plenty of other places to go get good beer and a bite without this aggravation.More

Either because of staff shortages or covid changes or just trying to be too hip, Caldera requires you to use your phone to get into their system to place an order. This requires setting up an account, adding your credit card, noting your table number,...and trying to navigate the numerous menu hyperlinks to select your entrees and options. After you do this, which takes much longer than simply ordering from a server, someone just brings you your order when it’s ready and you bus your own table when you’re done. So they’ve conscripted their customers to be part of their unpaid labor force to make their system more efficient for them – more cafeteria than restaurant - and then they have the nerve to default a 20% tip you pay while ordering and before being served! Fortunately, you can override the default tip. We work in technology, so that part was just an annoyance rather than a hindrance. However, we noticed several older parties having trouble with the system. The food was OK and the beer was good, but we likely won't be returning. The hostess was good – pleasant and efficient.More

Terrible experience at Caldera on Fathers Day. We went to be with family and we’re told we had to order online after we were seated. Everyone had to open an account, set up a password and do our ordering online which took time away from...our enjoyment of being together. When we finally got our order I was given red wine instead of the rose I ordered. My sisters salad dressing was so sour she could eat her salad. They used lilikoi dressing without any sweetner in it. I would not recommend this restaurant for either it’s service or it’s food.More

I'm so over the QR code for ordering food and drinks. It's frustrating! Scan the code, pass the phone to each member to place their order. It takes so much longer to do. Than the waiters/waitress come over and ask if they can help and...I'm thinking why can't you just take my order if your coming to my table to ask and than later to deliver my food. I just don't understand. So than it takes awhile for my kids to decide and we are sitting there with no water and I really wanted a beer flight to enjoy while everyone was deciding on food choices but nope, couldn't order that. The hostess sat another couple and they literally stayed there for 20 minutes helping them figure out how to order. In that amount of time, food and drinks could have been delivered. The restaurant itself was a fun atmosphere with their decor. Outdoor seating was amazing. Beer was very good. Loved the Toasted Coconut. The black bean burger was good.More
