I wrote a review for Briquette's in 2011 and have eaten there a few more times since then, and it is still excellent. I want to say the building is different from when I used to come when I visited Ashtabula for work, but I could be wrong. They have a nice patio overlooking the drawbridge, and I don't remember seeing that before.
I have BBQ cred, having eaten at many famous BBQ establishments such as Shuler's (SC), North Main (TX), Kreuz (TX), Slap's (KS), Bogart’s (MO), Mabel's (OH), Baby Blues (CA), Slows (MI), and others.
The ribs here are top notch. They are as good as ribs get. They are meaty and cooked perfectly. They are not soggy and have the correct bite.
The Brunswick Stew - still awesome. I thought it was amazing in 2011, and it still is really flavorful and worth getting. The Stew also came with cornbread, which was nice.
The smoked chicken wings were nicely done. I like the maple mustard sauce. I don't know if you can still ask to get the mustard sauce when you request BBQ sauce as they just brought out the sweet BBQ sauce when I asked for sauce, but if so, it is worth trying.
Having read my previous review, it seems the mac and cheese no longer has pork in it. The mac has more of a punch now I think. The beans are pretty tasty. Maybe a little too sweet for me, but they are good. The cornbread is tasty. I can't really advise on the best sides because none of them stood out to me, so I would just get what you generally like. I remember I used to get the Brunswick Stew as a side but the menu doesn't seem to offer that as an option any longer.
Easily the best BBQ in Ohio including Mabel's, which is ridiculously high-priced and not that good. The prices are Briquette's are much better, and so is the food.
Again, best BBQ in Ohio. Best Ribs pretty much anywhere I think, and try Brunswick Stew.

Best BBQ in Ohio? Now this is a compliment!
You have a great memory! Yes, we have moved locations (twice now) but we are in this space to stay. We designed the build-out 100% to our specifications, and although we made a few mistakes, it doesn't get much better for our operation. You are correct that the mac and cheese used to have pork in it, we recently omitted it in order to better serve to occasional vegetarian or picky kiddo that might be "along for the ride" with a group of carnivores. It does also pack a bit more of a punch now. We heavily upgraded the cheese sauce we use for it a couple years ago.
I really appreciate all the time you put into giving us your thoughts on everything. Looking forward to seeing you again soon.
Until we meet again,
Nate

4.5 starts for this BBQ restaurant. We sat outside on a beautiful summer afternoon and as a bonus we got to enjoy the river and the smell from the pit around the corner. We were seated promptly and our waitress Taylor was super friendly. I had the smoked wing dinner which was DELISH! The hubby had the smoked chicken thigh sandwich ('outstanding') and our friend, the pulled pork with the Cleveland topping. The price was very reasonable and value for what we had. The coleslaw was vinegar base and finely shredded. We all said it was outstanding! I went inside just for pictures. The upstairs would have been a fun place to eat too. If we were in the area I'd come back again!

Let me say first that the 5 stars is for the brisket. It is the best I have ever had and cuts like butter. The ribs were good but a little too peppery for us. The mac and cheese was good but there was a hair in my granddaughter's and when I brought it to the attention of the waitress she apologized and offered to replace it, I was like no thank you I don't want any more of your hairy mac n cheese. The different sauces are on a table by the entrance, and you pour your own into little cups. I would rather have had a bottle of each sauce at the table. We got the pecan pie and it was a very small piece for $6 it was dried out and not very good. I think it was called maple bourbon and sounded promising-skip it. I will definitely be going back but just for the brisket.

We spotted this restaurant when we stopped to take pictures of the lift bridge and were lured in by the wonderful aroma. We were not disappointed. The service was extraordinary. The BBQ was up to our Texas standards. The patio offered a good view of the lift bridge so we got to enjoy some great food while taking some good pictures. One of our better finds.

Have never given a 5 star review before. The beef brisket was one of the best I've ever eaten. Fork tender and flavorful. Had the pulled pork, also tender and flavorful. We liked the BBQ sauce on the table, sweet and smoky. The corn and bean salad side was actually a cowboy caviar, but better. The coleslaw was fresh, crispy, non-mayo type. Cheddar jalapeño corn bread was very tasty, would have been excellent is served warm. We shared the 2 meat meal and still could not finish it.

First time in Ashtabula. Briquettes was recommended. Waited over 20 minutes after being seated and NO one acknowledged us. Didn’t even get a menu. Tried to flag down a waiter with no luck. Decided they didn’t care about us and left. Told the host when we left and he shrugged his shoulders without any hint of an apology. Absolutely terrible service from very poorly trained staff. I’m sure their food can’t be any good if they don’t care about customers how could they care about their food !!! Don’t go there.
Go to Harbor Halcyon just down the street. We went there and were immediately greeted and seated and had wonderful service and the food was great at a great price.

We were staying in GOTL for the weekend and wanted a change of scenery for the evening. We drove to Ashtabula which was easy drive and plenty of parking. We walked up and down the main street by the bridge and glad we did because we found this place. We sat outside since it was such a comfortable night. The server was above and beyond, so honest and helpful. The menu overwhelmed us as we were both so hungry. We tried the smoked sweet tea to start and must add lemons to tone down the smokiness but a must try. We shared the platter of wings and ribs with Mac n cheese. All sooooo amazing. There is 1 sauce on the table and then a table of others inside the restaurant. The mac n cheese had some type of seasoning gave such a good flavor. We will be back if ever in the area again. It was also pretty cool to see the drawbridge go up and down across the street.

Absolutely one of our favorite restaurants while visiting Ashtabula OH. The BBQ ribs and pulled pork were delicious and the seating outside was perfect to watch the lift bridge. A definite must go if your in the area!

Hands down some of the best BBQ we’ve had, we were pleasantly surprised to come across this restaurant in the area. The portions were large, staff was friendly, atmosphere was great both inside and outside. My husband and I split “the big nasty” and had leftovers l which is unusual. If you’re in the area this is a must!

We all like our own BBQ and think it is best but this place really does it well. We had the Brisket sandwich and BBQ wings. The wings were great and the Brisket was very flavorful. You got plenty of food for the prices. Waitress could have been a little more up to speed on a few questions we had, but that will come with time.
Almost forgot the stew. It was great! Kind of like a Burgoo stew. We will definitely return.

Tarla, our waitress, was awesome and friendly and knowledgeable. I had wings, brisket, and ribs. The sauces were good, great beer selection and we liked the sides as well. I recommend this place if you’re in Ashtabula or near Geneva on the Lake OH. Come early because they sell out. Late lunch, early dinner is the best time I’d say.

We had ribs, we read the review, most were spot on accurate. The food was very good! Ribs can be a mess if they aren't trimmed, these were, and they were delicious! Our waitress was very efficient and friendly! The view of the draw bridge was very cool! Nice place in the middle of Ashtabula!

Briquettes is a wonderful place to go when you want to dine outside. The really large patio offers great ambience while enjoying some delicious food and great drinks. The portions are plentiful and satisfying.
I love the smoked sweet tea. Great flavor and definitely worth a try. ( I took mine half and half with unsweetened tea for the perfect mix. ). All the food we’ve tried has been really good.
The menu offers great selections and the prices are reasonable. Service is always very good. While it is a bit far from home, it’s always worth the trip.

Smoked BBQ meat, awesome! And the best part is that they let you add the sauce!! We sat at the bar, socially distanced and masks required except when eating or drinking. The bartender was absolutely delightful. We highly recommend!

Close to Lake Erie. This is a large restaurant but the staff is great.
We tried the brisket Rueben sandwich and it was awesome. The asparagus soup was also excellent.
Very close to the Coast Guard station Ashtabula.
A nice restaurant. Enjoy.
