Really good food! Very big selection of food choices. Large portions and you can't beat the view of the draw bridge. Service was excellent and the craft beer options were excellent- definitely coming back!

Good menu with lots of choices of pork, chicken and brisket. Good choice of sides. We also had nachos that were smothered with 2 kinds of cheese and your choice of pork, chicken or chili.

4.5 starts for this BBQ restaurant. We sat outside on a beautiful summer afternoon and as a bonus we got to enjoy the river and the smell from the pit around the corner. We were seated promptly and our waitress Taylor was super friendly. I...had the smoked wing dinner which was DELISH! The hubby had the smoked chicken thigh sandwich ('outstanding') and our friend, the pulled pork with the Cleveland topping. The price was very reasonable and value for what we had. The coleslaw was vinegar base and finely shredded. We all said it was outstanding! I went inside just for pictures. The upstairs would have been a fun place to eat too. If we were in the area I'd come back again!More

Food was awesome. View from bar upstairs is pretty cool overlooking harbor. Staff was limited and seemingly busy, service was slow.

Love sitting at the bar enjoying a glass of wine and the best buffalo chicken dip ever! Follow up with a cup of their delicious chili. The service is great.

August 2020… all is down and out in mid-pandemic New York City !! As we recovered from the killer infection and things started to loosen up, we took a much-longed-for break for a short week away from the eerie emptiness and fear that had eaten...away most of the last 6 months in the now-sleeping “City That Never Sleeps” ! ~ road trip to Ashtabula, an Air B&B house on the southern shore of the great lake, connected with family who drove in from Chicago (this was mid-point for both of our groups…) and settled in for a brief respite from the months of anxiety and confinement. (We made sure everyone was protected and safe for the duration though, and took extreme care with everyone we interacted with.) The Briquettes Smokehouse has been around since 2009, located in the small, downtown heart of Ashtabula… now home to some fine art, shopping dining and brewing establishments, and this is one of their finest. Located overlooking the harbor entrance and a dramatic drawbridge across the main inlet from the Lake, this is restaurant has a large indoor space (didn’t go there due to the health guidelines) and a large outdoor terrace open to the waterside. Watching the bridge go up and down for every large-ish vessel that comes through, while traffic backs up on both sides is the excitement / entertainment of the day ! Lunch for 6 escapees from the pandemic lockdowns in the big cities: we ordered from their varied range of sandwiches, lunch specials and burgers, accompanied by a wide range of sides and toppings: Chicken Wings, Pulled Pork, Mac & Cheese, Beef Brisket, etc., etc. ~ all delicious and prepared and fresh from local sources. Their “low-and-slow” meats are smoked in-house (tender, juicy, rich, falling-off-the-bone) and a fine selection of mostly domestic craft beers, local wines, and a decent range of liquors. I particularly liked the pulled pork, which literally melts in your mouth, with a punch of smoky flavors. Oh.. the portions ~ very generous: so bring an appetite with you, or a large bag to carry your leftovers home in. The service was welcoming, friendly and courteous... of course, everyone was observing the “distancing” requirements, but the owners did the best they could for all their customers. And at $70 for the 6 of us inclusive of beer and soft drinks, this was exceptional value for lunch. Well worth the visit ~ Thank you. And stay safe !More

My husband and I were traveling across country and stopped for the night in Ashtabula. Searched online for a place for dinner and discovered Briquettes had Excellent reviews! We had such amazing food and the staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. Loved talking with the...cooks after Closing Time while they were cleaning the grills. Pulled pork and brisket were heavenly as were the beans, potato salad, and Cole slaw. Yummy and plenty to eat!!! You won't regret stopping here. Just beware they close early, 8pm, because they actually run out of food!!! Fresh cooked daily. I'm looking forward to our next trip!!! Thanks BB!!!! (Couple from Iowa)More

We spotted this restaurant when we stopped to take pictures of the lift bridge and were lured in by the wonderful aroma. We were not disappointed. The service was extraordinary. The BBQ was up to our Texas standards. The patio offered a good view of...the lift bridge so we got to enjoy some great food while taking some good pictures. One of our better finds.More

Close to Lake Erie. This is a large restaurant but the staff is great. We tried the brisket Rueben sandwich and it was awesome. The asparagus soup was also excellent. Very close to the Coast Guard station Ashtabula. A nice restaurant. Enjoy.

Smoked BBQ meat, awesome! And the best part is that they let you add the sauce!! We sat at the bar, socially distanced and masks required except when eating or drinking. The bartender was absolutely delightful. We highly recommend!

Chapter 2 on our BBQ & hike adventure. We were there for lunch, so not too busy which was perfect for the current situation. The staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the dinner that offered all the meat options. I was surprised I liked...the chicken thigh and ribs the best, but all were fantastic. We sat at the bar and the view was outstanding. Make the trip here, it’s worth it!More

I wrote a review for Briquette's in 2011 and have eaten there a few more times since then, and it is still excellent. I want to say the building is different from when I used to come when I visited Ashtabula for work, but I...could be wrong. They have a nice patio overlooking the drawbridge, and I don't remember seeing that before. I have BBQ cred, having eaten at many famous BBQ establishments such as Shuler's (SC), North Main (TX), Kreuz (TX), Slap's (KS), Bogart’s (MO), Mabel's (OH), Baby Blues (CA), Slows (MI), and others. The ribs here are top notch. They are as good as ribs get. They are meaty and cooked perfectly. They are not soggy and have the correct bite. The Brunswick Stew - still awesome. I thought it was amazing in 2011, and it still is really flavorful and worth getting. The Stew also came with cornbread, which was nice. The smoked chicken wings were nicely done. I like the maple mustard sauce. I don't know if you can still ask to get the mustard sauce when you request BBQ sauce as they just brought out the sweet BBQ sauce when I asked for sauce, but if so, it is worth trying. Having read my previous review, it seems the mac and cheese no longer has pork in it. The mac has more of a punch now I think. The beans are pretty tasty. Maybe a little too sweet for me, but they are good. The cornbread is tasty. I can't really advise on the best sides because none of them stood out to me, so I would just get what you generally like. I remember I used to get the Brunswick Stew as a side but the menu doesn't seem to offer that as an option any longer. Easily the best BBQ in Ohio including Mabel's, which is ridiculously high-priced and not that good. The prices are Briquette's are much better, and so is the food. Again, best BBQ in Ohio. Best Ribs pretty much anywhere I think, and try Brunswick Stew.More

I would say that you should not have a problem. As for making reservations, I asked once and was told that they not take them. Enjoy the food and the views.
