A hidden gem!

We discovered Moosehead Grill a few years, ago. This has become our "go to" place when taking friends and relatives out to eat. The food is delicious and the portions are nice sized. They are known for their BBQ meats, but they have so much more. We have never been disappointed!

Barbeque chicken

Barbecue chicken, freshcut fries and steamed broccoli. I really think that the only think that was not just heated up was the fries. Regardless, the western BBQ sauce made it all tasty, and filling. I'll order Western, again.

Eat in and carry out

Three weeks ago, I ate in with a buddy. We went for the ribs and were very pleased with the ribs, waitress, decor. I was very pleased to have recommended Moosehead for our get together and enjoy a dinner together. Three weeks later I ordered carryout to share with a nursing home resident. I ordered ribs Alacarte with a side order of potato skins. We both described the potato skins as more like "chips". They were so overly cooked it was very sad. I felt like someone neglected them and instead of giving us a new order, they simply put them into the styro and sent them out knowing I'd be driving away with them. Thus my reason for suggesting only "Average" a great restaurant would never ever let something like this happen.

Still an excellent choice for us.

I had read some negative reviews about this restaurant, one of our favorites over the years; however, our experience there a couple weeks ago was very positive. My husband had the salmon, I had the Asian rib appetizer. Both were excellent. Our only complaint was the “plate” on which our meals were served, a cross between a cafeteria tray and a small metal baking sheet. Odd choice. We’ve always loved the ribs at Moosehead and often take visiting family there for those. They’ve never been a disappointment.

Good food and service

Stopped in for lunch today while passing through the area. Lots of interesting stuff to choose from, but since we weren't very hungry my wife had the quesadilla which she liked. I had the smoked brisket sandwich (didn't eat the bread) and it was pretty good, probably in the top 3 or 4 places. Gabi was our server, and she was pretty good; friendly, attentive and checked back, although the food runner did auction off the food. Prices were not bad, and it's worth stopping by when in the area.

No Longer Special Especially at the Price

In a galaxy far, far away ... Moosehead used to be the go-to place for ribs, brisket and burgers in Amherst. Yes, we all suffered through the pandemic but ... please ... let's stop making excuses and move on. We tried Moosehead for the first time in several years. The service was great but the food is SO expensive that, just viewing the prices, makes you violently ill. My wife got her all-time favorite ... the Sante Fe Salad ... which she said was not as good as "in the olden days" especially given the $16.00 price. Come on guys - it's lettuce and some chicken. I decided to experiment with the "Fish Sammy" which is just a cod filet on a bun with some cheese and fries. WORST choice ever. What I got was a cold, slimy fish sandwich with limp, cold French fries. All for the unbelievable price of only $14.00. There ought to be a law! Even though there were many patrons at the restaurant, I think after dining (and forking over their credit cards) some will agree with me. Do yourself a favor ... go somewhere else. There are too many other "American food" restaurants in the evolving Amherst area around Leavitt Road.

Starting to Slip Badly

My wife and I went for sit-in dinner on 12/17. Back in the day this would have meant waiting for a seat with the dinner crowd. Only a few cars in the lot and a few people in the restaurant. The staff was great but Moosehead was always where you went for great BBQ and fall-off-the-bone tender meaty ribs. Not anymore. First thing we noticed was the menu was pared down quite a bit. Our appetizer was the buffalo chicken rolls which we used to love. They were different. They were way way way overfried and didn't look fresh at all. Used to have fresh cheese and stuff on them but it was hard to tell in the mash that made up the filling. My ribs were small, thin, not very meaty, and quite overcooked. The western sauce was still good but the ribs kind of tasted a little like they may have been handled on a surface with some sort of mustard. They still tasted ok but keeping the prep area clean would prevent this. But they still charged me for premium ribs. My wifes chicken fingers were ok but the fries were pretty greasy and just warm. My baked potato was not baked thru and was pretty hard, not fluffy. Not the great BBQ meal that drew us in the past. The original owners cared a lot, now, not so much. The other thing that was, well, kinda disgusting, was that, for not very many people being in the building, the floor was sticky like it hadn't been cleaned in a while. That was a big turn off. This place has certainly gone down in the last few years and we will have to decide whether it's even worth making the attempt again in the future.

Stopped in for a lunch meeting and indulged in their chili and a BBQ Brisket salad. Food was great, server was great, and the atmosphere was perfect for conversation.

For the size of this place the menu is extremely large, Gordon Ramsey would not approve. Somewhat pricey but a good mix of to many offerings, they should stick to the ribs which are excellent - have the same complaint as others not enough desserts, but the service is great

Hidden Gem — Great Comfort Food

First— our service was amazing! Friendly, prompt and kind. Second— the food was great and tasty. Hubby had chicken cacciatore—-it was enormous, well seasoned and served over homemade noodles. Loved it! I had the adult Mac and cheese with chicken. The sauce was really creamy and cheesy. Very yummy. The added chicken could have been more abundant and larger, but still loved it! Thanks for a great meal.

Good barbecue! Just missing a few things.

The wife and I stopped for dinner on the way home from vacation, deciding we wanted some barbecue. The menu is fairly large with a decent offering and the prices are comparable to others in the area, so no surprises here. Moosehead features a variety of sauces, allowing you to pick your poison! Now bear with me here: they offer pulled pork, ribs and brisket but no bone-in chicken! No legs? No thighs? Wings?? Nope. Boneless, skinless breast fillet only. Also, they have many side dishes except...cornbread. What? A barbecue place with no cornbread?? Finally, at the end of the meal they were out of dessert; at 6:30pm (sigh). I need to mention that everything we ate was delicious and our server, Dennis, was attentive and dedicated to our needs throughout the evening. We had a nice time aside from the misgivings already mentioned.

I have come to this restaurant for years and have always had great service. great food. Today I took my family for dinner; ordered Dave’s Cajun Pasta with extra sauce. When I received my pasta they had put more sauce on as usual. Our server did not come back to check on table for 20 min and sent another waiter over who kindly took my extra sauce that I did not use back to the kitchen. Upon receiving my bill the extra sauce was on there; I explained the waiter took the sauce back to kitchen and was not used and kindly asked for it to me removed from bill. The server immediately got defensive and said no I ordered it and waited to long to send back; well no one came back to our table and another server was sent to check on us. This all took place after I asked for Italian dressing for my salad which I did not receive until 10 min after having my salad. I then asked to speak to the manager about sauce, the waitress said “I am the manager.” I thank asked to talk to her general manager which she immediately said he won’t come to table because I have to pay for sauce that was not used. I then said thank you but I will not be paying for the sauce. Then I am told that if I don’t pay; it comes out of her check and she is a single mom of two. I then informed her thank you playing the single mom card, I as well am a single mom. I have never been so disrespected in my life; in front of other guests at the establishment. The server was very unprofessional. I did pay my bill, in full paying for the sauce. On the way out I stopped at the hostess stand where I asked what the general managers name was. The hostess was very kind and informed me it was Josh Hogan. While talking to the hostess; the waitress who was rude, unprofessional and supposedly a manager interrupted; and went to the general manager; again supposedly because she said to him can you please go talk to her and the server was YELLING. Upon the general manager coming over to me; he did not state his name and immediately said you ordered the sauce. waited half way through meal to send it back you pay it. I then explained no one came over for 20 min; he rudely interrupted me. I than said thank you, and walked out of the establishment where this man followed me outside to my car telling me, “I needed to check myself.” and other rude, unprofessional comments. When I started to take my phone out to record his man who followed me outside the establishment, to my car he said, “This is unbelievable.” and walked back inside. If your establishment was not in the wrong then why feel the need to follow me to my car with witness inside the restaurant and outside he restaurant. I have never felt more violated in my life.

Good barbecue in our area

I visit here about once a month. They have a large bbq based menu with several sauces. Sometimes it’s really good and sometimes it’s more average. Love the baked beans. It’s a nice atmosphere and they have a full bar. If your hungry and in the area it’s worth the stop.
