Went with a whole bunch of mates down Alor Street and were impressed by the number of people dining here and the turn over, which is usually a good indication of quality. We weren't disappointed by the fantastic selection of dishes available, which were served rapidly and were absolutely delicious. The stingray was a stand out meal. Absolutely recommend this for the £14/head we paid to fill our boots and without stinting on the beers!

I got drawn in by the rotisserie bbq wings = OMG…l just had to feast on them so l V-lined straight towards them and ordered 6 x wings plus salt and pepper squid. The wings obviously come out piping hot, fresh and tasty as for the squid that was so delicious with a nice light tempura batter. The service was great and the food was excellent.

The service is WORSE than TERRIBLE!!! We came at 5:30pm and the waitress hovered over us to order the moment we were seated inside. To put things into perspective, the restaurant was practically empty since it was so early. Give us some space, lady! We came here specifically for the “Grill Stingray Fish” and asked the waitress which size we should order as a group of 3 (sizes range from RM35-RM80). She suggested the one priced at RM50. We took her suggestion and ordered that size. Then the waitress asked us if we wanted any drinks. We declined the drinks and her attitude completely changed! She rolled her eyes, walked away, and returned seconds later saying that we had to move to one of the outside tables if we were going to drink anything not from their restaurant. We had bottled water in our backpacks and had not taken them out at all... so why was the waitress assuming that we would have the audacity to consume outside drinks in her establishment?! She even went as far as to start carrying our plates and gesturing us to go outside since she was so mad that we did not order drinks. We told her that we would not drink anything while dining at Restoran Meng Kee Grill Fish, which we completely abided by. At this point, I would rather be quenched for thirst than give her another dime. It was extremely annoying that the waitress continually reminded us about not drinking outside drinks and kept checking up on us throughout our meal every 30 seconds to make sure that we were following that rule. Keep in mind that we did not pull out our bottled water ONCE from our backpacks so she had no idea that we even had outside drinks to begin with.
If you can get over the terrible service, do not expect a good meal either. The “Grill Stingray Fish” was bland and dry. At the end of your meal, they tell you what you owe them and stand at the edge of your table until you give them money. Can you give us some time to get the money out of our damn wallets?! Geez. Once you hand over the money, they shoo you away like a bunch of flies so they can clear the table. What I don’t understand is why there was such a rush to clear the table when literally only 3 other people were there at the time we went...
I’ve traveled to many countries in Asia and have never encountered a waitress so arrogant, rude, and disrespectful. Please support people who are kinder and friendlier by spending your money elsewhere. You will likely have a better dining experience, too.

One of the larger restaurants located right at the center of Jalan Alor. This place gets busy after 5pm with all the tables filled with hungry customers. The menu has a ton of Malay/Chinese cuisine to choose from. That being said I got the items that seems to be popular on this street:
Grilled Stingray: I guess I would describe this as fish but with a firmer texture. But firmer in a good way, not like overcooked calamari which would be chewy. I really enjoyed it and would choose it over regular old fish.
Char Kway Teow: not the best I've had in KL but solid. I'd probably try a different noodle dish or fried rice just to see how it is if I go back.
Service was efficient and friendly. They know what they are doing on Jalan Alor when it comes to feeding the masses and Meng Kee Grill Fish is no different. Overall a good spot to eat.

This is definitely not the cheapest, nor the best restaurant in KL. But it was one of the nearest places from our hotel, and was still open at 11pm.
Located at the touristy Jalan Ah Lor Night Market in Kuala Lumpur, this is akin to going Newton Circus in Singapore.
The food was above average and well cooked, and the crowds and live singing contributed to the awesome atmosphere on a Friday night.
Their Steamed Oysters, and Steamed Scallops were pretty fresh. I didn't dare try the raw fresh ones, as this was just my first night here.
I opted for the Balkis vegetables to be stir fried, instead of being with balachan. It was fresh and not overcooked, but I had to ask for hot water to rinse it, as it was too salty.
Their KL Hokkien Mee was not bad. Better than most in Singapore, but not the best I've ever eaten.
Restoran Ming Kee was pretty packed, and 75% filled, even after 10pm. Half weee locals, half were tourists, but everyone seemed happy. So was I.

Jalan alor is one of the tourist spot in Kuala Lumpur and a trip to Kuala Lumpur is never complete without dining there. I’ve been to KL a number of times but never really got the opportunity to eat there.
The family made an effort to have dinner on the last night in KL for this trip. There were many restaurant scattered on both sides of the road with touters shouting, making the place loud and vibrant. We saw that there were many Chinese and Thai restaurant and we ended up at meng kee eventually.
The service staff was very friendly and recommended a few dishes. Overall we ordered all the stuff that’s famous here. But we found the dishes too salty for our liking.
In terms of price, I believed it’s on the higher side in view of its status as a tourists’ spot. Will I do it again? Probably not, once is good enough. Nothing really significant here. But for the atmosphere and it’s status as an iconic street and the friendly service staff, I’ll give it a 3!

A local colleague booked Ming Kee Grilled Seafood. We sat outside and watched the world go by. We are the Sambal Stingray which was a first, beautiful flavours , chilli crab, pepper crab, prawns and chicken-fish which I was told was like a leather jacket. Tiger beers went down a treat. The meal was so cheap compared to Melbourne prices

We stopped here for lunch and quickly realized lunch includes a "limited" menu. So we had lunch and returned later, for the dinner menu. The dinner was well presented and flavorful. It's an open air dining experience as is the whole street. We would come back and are currently working on a return trip to KL.

We were recommended to go to this street by a local ex-pat. We wandered up the street and choose this as it seemed busy with locals. It was a bit “ rough and ready” but the food was delicious with the sweet chilli prawns and salt and pepper octopus being delicious. We were agog watching a family in the next table demolishing crab in sweet chilli sauce with the sauce all over everywhere! Worth the cost of our food for the spectacle.

We went to Meng Kee grill fish, and it had some great food😍! It was great value for great food which we thoughrouly enjoyed eating😉. It was a very busy restraunt, and the street, which was filled with food stalls, was packed😳. The stingray that we ordered didn't taste much, and I wouldn't recommend it, but we especially loved the noodles and tofu. Be aware that the seating is plastic chairs, tables, and plates, and we had to sit on the same big table as other families and people. Overall, it was a great experience and definitely worth it. 👌🏻 ✨️ 😌 ☺️

A fish restaurant doesn't exactly scream welcome vegetarians but we had our best vegetarian food in KL here. (Maybe not recommended if you want things cooking in separate bowls!). We ordered 5 small dishes so we could try a few different things and the sizes were much bigger than expected. We LOVED the coated bean curd and the noodles, but everything was very special. Try the salted egg tofu too for a unique taste - so moreish! To top it off, the service was amazing. It started to rain and they moved everyone inside within seconds, it was hilarious and very impressive!

We popped by Jalan Alor on a Friday night and decided to have dinner there. We saw Restaurant Meng Kee Grill Fish, which was well patronised and we decided to try the food there. Once ordered , the food arrived quickly. Generally the quality of the food is good. Wouldn’t mind coming back to try other dishes.

Very good and fresh seafood.
I had the oyster omelet crisp and flavorful, different than what I had in Singapore.
The 2 girls next to me from Hong Kong gave me some cockles which were also good.
Everyone's dishes looked delicious if I could eat more I would !
Would recommend and return!

The place is crowded and naturally its a long wait for your food. Its a little chaotic between orders and delivery. I would advise to go earlier before the dinner rush hours hopefully situation would be better. Food is tasty but overpriced.
