This is a small setup in a residential area. It's among a school, news agent and a hospital and among other high rises. Most restaurants don't survive in this area but this one does so it says something about its quality. All its lunch sets...are fried chicken of some sort. I don't bother about the sets but prefer the a la cart dishes. Generally its fried dishes are above average standard except for the Agedashi Tofu which uses bread crumbs instead of rice flour. The sauce it comes with the tofu is fantastic but the wrong choice of coating makes it a letdown. The tempura is well fried to perfection. Fabulous stuff to try. The beef tataki was nicely prepared and not too thick nor too thin. And it was cooked to the right doneness. The restaurant has a very simple straightforward deco. Typical of a local cafe style. Service is excellent. A place worth trying if you are in the area.More

A small restaurant with an unassuming facade located just after the Garden International School in Mont Kiara, on the same block as the Global Doctors Hospital and Gloria Jeans Coffee. Seen it numerous times and decided today to pop in for a quick lunch between...appointments. What a lovely surprise! I skipped the bentos and full-on a la carte sections to order from the small dishes section -- an agedashi tofu, a lotus root and pumpkin tempura, washed down with hot green tea. The tofu was simply stunning -- generous tofu pieces, piping hot and crisp on the outside, soft and tender on the inside, served with a flavourful broth. It was one of the nicest versions I've tasted, which says a lot seeing as this is one of my favourite dishes. The crisp skin on the tofu pieces indicate the chef timed the arrival of the dish perfectly -- there could not have been too many second between the time he poured the broth and the dish arrived at my table. The lotus root and pumpkin tempura had a tad too much batter, but the batter was light and crisp, and the veg crunchy. I loved that they had unusual veg options for tempura -- the lotus root and pumpking are far better than the standard carrot, radish, onion options you get at most restaurants. Everything tasted good and light, and most of all fresh -- all indications of a chef with a light touch and a busy clientele. Service was attentive but not intrusive, and my meal cost me RM15 -- great value considering you're getting full service in an upmarket neighbourhood. Check it out. It's good.More

I visited this restaurant with two friends and it's super convenient for expats living in the surrounding communities. The food was overall pretty good and the service needs a bit of improvement. The menu: the first thing I noticed is the restaurant had several menus...which made it quite difficult to look through. They had a regular menu attached with a lunch menu and separately provided a salmon and beef menus. They also had a "drink" menu on the table but it didn't include all of the drinks and was on a tacky stand. It may be better to consolidate the drinks on one menu and then to provide it when the guests sit down. To me, the way they had the drink menu didn't fit with how nice the restaurant looks. The menus were a lot to go through and not organized well if you are trying to figure out what a restaurant's specialties are, entrees, and main courses to order, etc. The food: we ordered two appetizers to start with (curry fondue and agedashi bean curd). The bean curd dish apparently has eggplant but we didn't find any when we cut into the fried balls. The curry fondue was good and very unique, great fusion appetizer. Our main courses were spicy tan tan (very spicy and vegetarian) spicy tan tan (mild) and chargrilled beef with a Japanese sour sauce. The okay: Vegetarian spicy tan tan. Although we asked for the spicy tan tan to be mild, there was no spice in the dish... The chargrilled beef left a lot to be desired as the dish was tiny and could easily be an appetizer with a an entree course price tag. The picture for this dish is deceiving because it looks a lot bigger than what they bring out to you. We also ordered plain rice and salmon garlic rice ( although on their menu they had a garlic rice but didn't have any for dinner, but somehow they could make garlic salmon rice....). The rice was okay, nothing special, probably pre made. I ended up ordering a chicken curry Katsu side dish as I was still hungry from the beef dish. We noticed a lot of the dishes on their menu were fried and would have preferred more variety. The desserts were simple - just ice cream. They did have an interesting black sesame ice cream which was slightly sweet and tangy with hints of dark sesame. It was good. The service needs to be improved but not in the typical fashion. The restaurant was empty when we arrived but they had 5 to 6 wait staff in the general area...it felt like the wait staff was hovering over us the entire time. For so few people, they probably only needed one or two servers. The servers also need to be better trained as they had difficulty answering our questions and giving recommendations...More
