Small no-frills bar north of Osaka station/Umeda, next to the Sky Building. Has the largest selection of craft beer in Japan probably. Five taps + over a hundred different bottled/canned craft beers from all over the world. Check out the HUGE walk-in fridge room to...make your choices. Tap prices are normal for Japan. Bottled and canned beers are cheaper for takeaway consumption as they have a corkage fee. But the five taps are plenty. Upstairs room seats maybe twenty-five. Friendly staff, very knowledgable about beer! Small selection of bar foods (a little pricey for the plate size). This is a bar for craft beer lovers.More

My husband and I are visiting Japan for 2 weeks, and during our trip we spent 3 nights in Osaka. On our second full day in the city, we spent the morning visiting the Osaka Museum of History and Osaka Castle. The heat and humidity...were much ore than we were used to, so by the time we got back to the area of our hotel (near Umeda station), we were hungry, thirsty and worn out. But wanting to avoid going back to the hotel (for fear of collapsing on the bed and never leaving again), we searched out the Craft Beer Base (recommended in our Lonely Planet guidebook) for a frosty IPA. It didn't look like much from the outside, but inside we met Masaki, manager of the shop, and his staff who were all very friendly and engaging. They have hundreds of beers from all over the world, and we were proud and happy to see so many selections from Portland OR, where we live. They also have 4 rotating taps. We spent a couple of hours eating a few delicious small plates, and drinking several US and Japanese beers, while Masaki talked to us about his trip to Portland 2 years ago, and showed us the very impressive list of breweries he visited during his short time there. They then recommended a great ramen restaurant. They also gave us a booklet with locations or other craft breweries and bottle shops in Osaka. This was a lovely part of our afternoon and I would highly recommend that anyone looking for a little break in their day or their evening to stop in and have a pint or two.More
