Came here for something light and had a congee with chicken and egg that costed ¥690 and ramen costed ¥890 yet we got charged an extra ¥400 per person for some sort of service fee that we have no idea about?! The girls English weren't good enough in explaining what this fee involves and honestly paying 1/3 on top of... More

We read all the reviews and decided to give it a try. But like most things hyped in Japan by western reviews, it is at best average compared to most truly local finds with only an English menu. We were charged a cover of 400 each for an appetizer which frankly was unnecessary. The rest of the starters were terrible.... More

We made a reservation as our concierge recommended this place.. the food was nice, but we have had better ramen throughout Japan, and the wait time is absolutely not worth it! Only try this if you are walking past and notice that there is no queue.

We were there on a Friday for lunch after shopping at Nishiiki Market. It was not far from the market and we relied on our GPS to locate this restaurant. There was a queue and we were famished so we accepted the offer to sit at the counter. We were there for the burnt ramen that travellers raved about so... More

If you love ramen then you have to try this place while in Kyoto. The burnt miso ramen is the specialty of this restaurant, and it is amazing. You will have to wait as there is a line outside for this popular ramen restaurant and it can be cold in the winter (it's worth the wait). Remember to write your... More

My son and I went for lunch on a Sunday. My son found a review on Yelp and after we got there, there were several locals waiting outside for a table. I knew we found a gem. After a short wait we were seated and ordered the Gogyo special ramen with pork. We sat at the front counter and we... More

We walked past the restaurant at 11am and noticed there was a queue and decided to go back for dinner. Started queuing at 8pm and only get in at 9.15pm. Noticed they don't overturn the tables as quick as guest leaves. We ordered the ramen, karaage, tuna and Guoza. We both really like the karaage followed by guoza. Tuna was... More

Loved this place, must try when you are in Kyoto. We tried the burned miso ramen, it was divine. So rich and full of flavor. We also tried gyoza which were nice but it's the ramen that impressed us. Good selection of sake and house wine. The queue is very slow moving but the noodles were worth it.

I read so many reviews about this restaurant before coming here and would like to give it a try on its famous black soup ramen noodles. Me and my friends went there around 7PM and it wasn't busy at all. After being sat down at a table and ready to order, the server informed us there was an extra charge... More

I found the ramen really unique and enjoyable. However, not everyone who was with me enjoyed it. It requires a certain taste palette to enjoy. Try this ramen if you want an adventure, but no guarantee you will enjoy it.
