Burnt miso ramen is freakin awesome and a must try for anyone who loves a bowl! Easy to find, just off from Nishiki market.

This place was one of the recommended restaurants to try in Kyoto. We were curious as to how a black ramen would have tasted like. And wow....we were pleasantly surprised! It was delicious! The miso one was the one with better taste compared to the other one. I believe the soup was black because they burnt it. The location though,... More

While the wait can be long, the food is worth it. Their burnt ramen is an excellent twist on traditional ramen flavours and the gyoza were full of flavour - the best gyoza we ate in Kyoto. A great way to eat good ramen with a restaurant atmosphere rather than the quick feed experience.

So after trying a Gogyo restaurant in Roppongi, Tokyo - we thought we'd try the one in Kyoto. The difference was night and day. Whilst the Tokyo one had an authentic feel to it with personable service, great menu options and a good ambience. The Kyoto venue had more of a poor Wagamama feel to it. Very limited veggie options... More

This came recommended from a friendly cab driver. He said get the burnt broth ramen. I wish I knew how it was made, but it was spot on. Tasted like a BBQ in a broth. Very upbeat atmosphere and other interesting things to try as well. I think we had duck and other starters that were great.

Although it is expensive but it's worth it! do expect to wait about an hour queue outside. I wish I been there more than once while I was in Kyoto. Sadly, I think, as this is only only restaurant in the world and I am hoping they will open several branches worldwide.

Nice food, small portions but watch the 400 yen for seating only. A. bit of theatre when making Burnt miso soup. Close to Gran Bach Hotel. Lots of smokers. Have to sit at the front bar to avoid choking

We went to this restaurant from other trip advisor recommendations and I'm so glad we did! The service and food was incredible and we really enjoyed it! We did have to wait 45 minutes but it wasn't a problem, we put our names on a list and then went to the bar next door and had a glass of wine.... More

We came here to sample the burnt miso ramen. It was delicious and it certainly filled you up. The restaurant gets busy but we didn't have to wait long. They do charge for seating per person but to be honest in Japan you don't tip, so just look at it in that perspective. It's slightly more pricer than the many... More

Went there for lunch, there wasn't any queue at that point. We ordered a Shoyu and a Miso burnt ramen, the Flavour is totally new and interesting! Worth a try from your regular taste of ramen soup. You can have it as Tsukemen as well (dipping style). In addition, we tried the Gyoza (as part of a set), it's alright... More

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
