I found the ramen really unique and enjoyable. However, not everyone who was with me enjoyed it. It requires a certain taste palette to enjoy. Try this ramen if you want an adventure, but no guarantee you will enjoy it.

One of the most famous lamen house in Kyoto, the soup was burned. I recommend it just if you want to try a different kind of food. You have to pay for a starter, even if you do not want it and it was not good. I had to wait a long time for the food and after they made... More

It’s a quite popular place so go early, reserve or be prepared to wait a little outside. The atmosphere is inviting and the décor relaxing and pleasing. The staff member who assisted me spoke a very good English, was pleasant and professional, as were most other staff members I interacted with. There is a YEN 400 cover charge of which... More

We waited about 30 minutes for dinner here. It would have been slightly less time had the waiter not skipped about 5 groups of people on the sign up sheet. We pointed it out to him and were seated not long after since we had been next. We both had the burnt miso ramen. It's very good but very rich.... More

Love this place but try and get there early because the lines can get quite long. The food was amazing and didn’t disappoint. Order the bread crumbed tuna, you won’t regret it! The matsutake mushroom soup on a teapot was a lot smaller than I thought but very fragrant. Inhale deep. Does it remind you of Autumn? The service was... More

The burnt miso ramen I had here was one of the very best things I have EVER tasted! I could go on and on about it, but I wholeheartedly encourage you to go there and try it yourself. Totally delicious! Tip - it closes between 3pm and 5pm, so make sure you get there by 2.30 if you want to... More

The speciality of this restaurant is the burnt miso ramen. Watching the chef prepare the burnt miso is spectacular. Makes one wonder how the chef can endure that high temperature from the fire. The burnt soup is very intensed in flavour. Unless you like the intensity, it is advisable to share a bowl just to have a taste of it.... More

I've lived in Japan for over 2 years now, and this has definitely been one of my most favorite restaurants! Definitely try the Kogashi miso-men & gyoza when you go. So, so good!

This place specializes in burnt miso ramen. We had heard that there are ramen lovers who dream of this place and now we understand why. We had a really good dinner in this small casual spot. One of the better Ramens we have tried.

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighborhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
