My travelling companion and i were here in November 2019. There was a slight wait to get in (but they do serve beers while you wait). The staff was friendly and the dumplings great (we had black pork, red pepper ). The stand out though...was the pickled cucumber salad, it was crisp and fresh and truly exceptional. The price as well was very reasonable. Only comment is that the standard meal plan probably isn't enough for two people so you should order some extra gyoza and save yourself the issue of ordering them later ;)More

Their gyozas are always crispy outside and juicy. I only order gyoza and nama beer set here, nothing else.

Been here a couple of times, and every time the food is superb. Expect queues (especially in peak tourist seasons), though you can order beers whilst outside to help pass the time. I'd recommend as late-night comfort food or as an antidote to the haute...cuisine of Kyoto!More

My review is probably affected by the fact that I queued for an hour to eat here so my expectations were high. The menu has some interesting items on offer but I found that they were nice but not particularly tasty/flavoursome. The combinations on offer...were interesting and possibly more attuned to the Western palate. And maybe that's why they didn't work so well.More

Me and my boyfriend almost walked away when we saw the HUGE queue outside this restaurant. But, we'd seen the raving reviews and thought we'd give it a chance. The queue has a system, where you write your name down on a list and each...one is called into the restaurant (which is very small). We waited 2 hours overall, but we kept going off to the nearby river and popping back every 30 mins to check where we were on the list. When we were 2-3 people away we just waited. Its good to note quite a few people write their names down then walk off, so sometimes the list jumps by 3 sets of people or so which is good. When we entered I assumed we would be rushed along but we weren't at all. We ordered several sets of the different gyozas and I must say at first I was apprehensive about the idea of a whole meal being simply gyozas but they are all so different it really works. Best gyozas we had in Japan and the price isn't bad either. They even do puddings in gyoza form!! We would definitely recommend this restaurant.More

Good, albeit small, gyoza place in Kyoto. Was able to serve my family of 5 in early evening, no problem. We enjoyed the family set + some additions. Didn’t leave hungry!

We chose this restaurant on our first night in Kyoto and were completely blown away! The staff were incredibly friendly and had very easy to understand menus in English and also for vegetarian options. The atmosphere was awesome - the staff encourage a friendly ‘cheers’...with every drink ordered and even the customers next to us celebrated with us. Food was INCREDIBLE to top it all off! OH - and free wifi! Absolutely would recommend again!More

Was a great vibe and feel. The stafff friendly and helpful, tried and did well with English. They also have an english menu and 2 menus, 1 for no meat and 1 with meat, hard to confuse the menus. The food was quick and well...made, really delicious. Make sure you order you beers and kampai!!!More

Though small by comparison, Pontocho is one of Kyoto's

They serve many different types of gyozas. My group of 5 included two vegetarians, two meat eaters and one pescatarian. We also enjoyed a plate of chocolate gyozas. I don't know about halal.
