From the front of the restaurant comes the tempting aroma of dashi, inviting the diner in. True to their Kyoto roots, they pursue a ramen richly suffus...

Inoichi is a cozy ramen joint that became my suppertime ritual. For 7 consecutive nights, each and every night that I was in Kyoto, I ate at Inoichi. Here, ramen is a culinary craft made with precision. What makes Inoichi ramen so uniquely special is...that its dashi soup contains no animal fats; instead, Inoichi uses 100% seafood dashi extracted from fish flakes at low temperature. Just watching the cooks prepare the ramen dishes is the epitome of inspirational art in itself. I still think of Inoichi from last month and can't wait to eat ramen there again; also, their homemade sweet tofu dessert is sublime. Inoichi is one of my favorite restaurants, hands down!More

Absolutely divine! Clean and yet rich taste ramen. Had the ebi ramen, really unique. Given a bib, such a refine way of eating ramen. Will be back for sure.

The most delicious Ramen I have ever had. I had wagu Ramen with white soup. Compared to other ramen soup, it is not that salty. The flavour is just elegant. The shop is very clean. The kitchen is open but no smell at all. It...is a long queue especially in a chilly evening. But really worth it! Highly recommanded!More

This ramen shop does clean broth and they have multiple different kind of soup broths available. In my recent visits, I had the clam soup and the dried fish based. Both were excellent. The soup is delicious and this is one place where you will not...feel thirsty after having their soup ramen. They have always ask you to try the original soup before adding in other condiments that will change the soup flavour (garlic, yuzu, seaweed etc). The egg is great and so is the rice bowl (wagyu or tofu with scallops) which you should add to try out the entire menu. It has always been consistent in terms of their performance and while other complaint about the queue, you can easily just come 20 min before and get in when they open. If you come after they have opened, the wait will usually be longer but now you would be queueing inside the restaurant (provided the queue isn't that long) which is great as it is at least not under cold conditions). Note: They have move slightly from their original place and opened another shop which is close by.More

Arrived 15 to 20 mins before the restaurant opens for lunch you are in for the first seating. The white soup base is light and delicious with yuzu. Add in the dried kelp for added texture. I hv seen people entering on the dot ,...you can still secure a space after which there is a long queue.More

Tiny ramen restaurant with a long lineup that moves quickly. The staff are very efficient; they take your order in line and you get your food almost as soon as you sit down. Ramen is delicious. Slightly nonstandard (broth has a strong fish flavour) but...fantastic ingredients, well-prepared. Dumpling appetizer was delicious too.More

So disappointed. After about 5 bites, my daughter and I couldn’t eat anymore - so fishy tasting. I watched 4 Japanese girls - late teens, maybe early 20’s - not finish theirs either. Maybe we just caught Inoichi on a bad day. In any case,...we left there and went to Ippudo and were much happier.More

I understand and respect that restaurants have to have rules, and that the rules may vary by culture. With that being said, they need to remember that the reason they are successful is because of their customers. During a recent trip to Kyoto, my husband...and I decided to visit Inoichi for dinner. After waiting in line 30-40 minutes, my husband had to use the restroom, so he ran over to the convenience store next door to the restaurant. He had been gone about a minute or two when a restaurant employee came out to assess the line. When he realized my husband had stepped out of line, he told me that I had to get out of the line because they have rules about the whole party not being there. I tried explaining to the employee but he became very unfriendly. I even offered to call my husband back but he would not allow me to do so, at which point he decided it was appropriate to grab me by the arm. Again, I understand and respect the need for rules, but this restaurant has lost my business.More

We waited for 45 mins cos we arrived around 6pm already (though it opens around 5:30 i think), but it’s worth the wait! Staff is friendly, explains how you eat everything that’s served on your table especially since we’re not Japanese. They have english translation...on the menu and they speak good english. Last but the most important, food is really good! Try the wagyu ramen, it feels like you’re Emil on the Ratatouille pixar movie upon tasting it lolMore

Never had a yuzu ramen before and I ordered the Yuzu Ramen here (¥800) and it turned out to be a really good decision! Absolutely loved how light the soup was and the noodles were really yummy! This tiny 10-seater restaurant certainly is on par...with Ichiran, if not better! Tip: Go before 6!! You need to avoid the crowd for this!More

This place had a different style broth. It is much lighter and clearer than usual ramen broths. So less salty. I prefer a heavier broth but my husband loved it. He had the white broth with chicken while I had the shoyu broth with wagyu...beef. It was good and the yuzu added a new dimension. Be prepared for a wait. We arrived at 7pm...there was already a line. We got in at 8pm. But by 7.15pm they ran out of broth so no more people were allowed to line up after a couple behind us. Small restaurant which only seats about 12. Get the Chashu don. It was so good.More

We walked in front of this restaurant during the day and we saw a lot of local people waiting to enter, so we wanted to try it in the evening. We waited around 20-30 minutes before entering, they gave us in advance the menu to...take a look and order before seating. Tasty and rich ramen, the boiled egg had a fantastic creamy yolk. We also tried to add a bit of tororo kombu to the soup to taste something new and interesting. Very friendly and kind staff.More

Tasty ramen, good experience. Came here based on internet reviews and were not disappointed. It was about a 20 minute walk from the main Kyoto station. We got here at ~1:30 pm and lucked into a table with no line. I never saw the waiting...line go more than 3 people deep, but this place is definitely popular. The ramen is a little bit different, most of the broths are fish based (mackerel or bonito), and come with your choice of meat served on the side (both the Wagyu and Chashu were good). The ramen is a bit lighter, so you don't feel quite so stuffed when you leave. I got the mackerel + wagyu option and was very happy. Definitely a worthy ramen stop when in Kyoto!More

Wait was horrendous, we arrived at 7pm on a week day. Asked to wait 30mins, did not get a table until 8.30. The place closes at 9pm with limited capacity. Service was honest and they tried very hard but wait is too long. The ramen...was good and tasty but not really worth the wait, unless you come early just before it opens. If you’re in Tokyo, Shinjuku, must try Fuunji Ramen.More
