Delicious, smooth coffee. Loved the flavor of the pour over and flat white. They offer soy option of milk too. Top this place off with sweet Sakura muffins and a tranquil view from the cozy back patio and you have a perfect stopping spot after...the Torii gates.More

I know %Arabica gets talked about a lot, but if I was to choose a coffee shop near a must-see sight in Japan, it'd 100% be Vermillion, hands down. On my seventh trip to Japan, I dragged 4 other of my friends from Melbourne along...with me to Kyoto, and I made them get out of bed around 4:30am one morning so they could experience Fushimi Inari Taisha properly. That is to say, without too many tourists around. It goes without saying that Fushimi Inari was absolutely stunning, however, an early morning does take its toll and we were doing laps of the local area mid-morning, impatiently waiting for Vermillion to open - as I'd heard that the coffee here was Australian style (thank god). Is Vermillion worth your time? Absolutely yes! Is the coffee excellent? 100%! What about the rest of the cafe experience? I have no complaints whatsoever. The food was more substantial than I normally see in Japan, and the coffee was good enough that we stayed for round 2 and I had some cake as well. There was enough room for all five of us, and the staff were absolutely lovely. At time of visiting I don't believe there were any gluten free options unfortunately. Good lord, a flat white, in this hemisphere? It was a miracle! I couldn't resist trying their matcha chiffon cake (check the photo, it's adorable) and their Espresso Sunrise. Anyway - would I return? Absolutely! Would I recommend? Definitely yes! I've seen lines get pretty long on other visits though so arrive early if you're keen.More

I literally started drinking coffee here for the first time in my life at the age of 42. That's how good it was. We sat outside with coffee and little bites - an oasis near the shrine. Apparently they serve Australian-style coffee (I'd never tried...it before) and it was delicious. I haven't stopped drinking coffee since my visit but it's never been as good.More

Close to Fushimi Inari Shrine and Mount Inari and good for a breakfast before the hike or a stopover after. They have Western hipster food (such as smashed avocado toast) and the staff speaks decent English. The latte macchiato is superb and we had matcha...ganache as a dessert and it was way yummy, great texture. The backyard has a beautiful river view and lush vegetation and feels a bit like being in the tropics. Very quiet and good to relax for an hour or so! They also own a little souvenir store with souvenirs that are not the average cheap things that you can find in any other store, however it was closed when we came.More

Nice coffee shop to stop by after your tiring trek to Mount Inari. Lines can get long here but they're quite efficient so I recommend getting a cup of latte when you are able to stop by!

Fantastic big breakfast and cheese toasty with vegemite. Great coffee!!! Good music and friendly staff. We walked back down from the shrine on Mt Anari and stumbled across this cafe unexpectedly. Lucky.

We were served by a lovely waitress speaking perfect English and she could not have been more friendly... but we waited an eternity for our tomato & cheese toasties.. Yea... odd choice but there wasn't;t much else on offer. The most amusing thing here was...the loo seat playing Land of Hope and Glory when sat on... Did it really recognise the nationality of my cheeks... or was it just because England were about to thrash the All Blacks in that weekend's extraordinary rugby game?More

Nice and cozy. Seems like we’re here every time we come to Inari! The deco is warm and inviting. Especially during this time of the year!

A female staff member ruined our experience at this cafe branch. We already went twice to the other branch early in the morning and the service at the other place was good. So in the afternoon we decided to try this branch. The woman behind...the counter (the taller and bigger one of the two staff during this time) was so unfriendly and nasty, not allowing me to go in and sit without buying anything. But actually we stopped only because my partner wanted a coffee and he had bought a cup. She even gave me a nasty look throughout our time sitting there. What a miserable piece of s*! She’s so unlike other nice and friendly Japanese people we’ve met. If she continues to work there with this kind of attitude, no doubt this place is going down the drain.More

Very expensive and an excuse for coffee. Ordered a flat white but the coffee came with what looked like just milk. Was told it was a single shot and we would have to pay for an additional shot that was basically just poured into the...coffee. Nice ambience but do use the coffee shop diagonally across the street if you like coffee.More

Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi
Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist
attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens,
temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for
strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine
itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the
mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers,
picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the
