The coffee here is amazing. I'm from Sydney Australia and we have really decent coffee. This was better. As another person said, it does take a while. So don't go here when you're in a rush, you need to be able to wait at least 10-20 minutes for your cup of coffee and be ok with that, otherwise don't bother going in. Once the coffee arrives though, it truly is worth the wait.

Highly recommendable. Small shop but relaxed atmosphere. We went there a few days in a row. Sandwiches are tasty with some greenery on the side.

We intended to stop by “quickly” to get coffees to go on our tour but it took them, I kid you not, 40 minutes in total to get a cappuccino and a latte to go. Needless to say, we missed our tour waiting for the coffees. I wish I could say it was worth it but really, it wasn’t. The coffees tasted burnt and super bitter.

Some friends of ours happened upon this little gem during our stay in Kyoto and raved about it, so we dropped in the next morning to experience it for ourselves. We were not disappointed. They have a lovely menu of western-style breakfast items, with a Japanese touch. They also had a small selection of freshly baked goods when we were there. The coffee was some of the best we had in Japan. Would definitely visit again!

I stumbled upon this cafe by chance - my decision to go in was based on it was the only cafe open earlier than 11am! They do set menus that are excellent deals. I got a sandwich set, salad and coffee for 750 yen. Other places offer so little for the same amount. The coffee was the best I've had in Kyoto - definitely try the Kenyan single origin! The tomato, basil and cheese sandwich was delicious, they must've added some orange because the sauce was so zesty. I found it on my second last day so naturally, I went back on my last day.

Easily the best coffee I've had in one week in Japan. The breakfast delicate and delicious but not the biggest portions. They are not expensive, so we just ended up sharing an extra dish. The interior is minimalistic, but the combination of concrete walls and pine wood in the ceiling gives a warm and lovely atmosphere.

The staff understands enough English to order, the menu had English descriptions, and everyone is friendly. For the drinks: get the iced coffee blended with ice cream. Really, go get it! It's really fantastic. Great balance of sweetness and coffee flavor without too much sugar or bitterness from the coffee. It's smooth, refreshing, and has a clean aftertaste. The ambiance is casual and comfortable. The music is down tempo, with recessed overhead lightning, and concrete walls. It's the kind of space that feels good to hang out in. Totally worth checking out.

Having travelled a lot, visiting a lot of independent coffee shops around the world we are both in agreement that the mocha made by the lady here in Sentido is the best we've tasted! We spent 2 weeks in Kyoto and pedalled our little bikes a good few miles to get to Sentido for our fix! They also have tasty lunches and snacks

Amazing coffee, best one I've had yet since I left Melbourne. I had the macchiato (¥420) whilst hubby got the cappuccino (¥450). The macchiato was quite strong but I enjoyed it. The froth was so fine and had some latte art I thought I was back in Melbourne again. They use proper espresso machines here as opposed to the drip methods adopted by most of the cafes we've been to. The shop is tiny and recently started serving simple lunch sets from 11:00-14:00.

An early-ish morning espresso and breakfast can be challenging to find in Japan. Open 8am - 7pm (Mon - Sat), Sentido was a welcome find. A small cafe (aren't they all?) with a limited menu, the toasted banana bread with perhaps the world's smallest but perfectly cut cube of butter, put a smile on my face. The expresso was perfect and the ambience welcoming. The diminutive menu also includes an option of a small bowl of cereal, with fruit and yoghurt. Don't forget a pitstop in the small but perfectly formed toilet before heading out to see the temples!

Nice people working there and they have really good espressos. Ask for the espresso with beans from Kenya.

We would visit here each morning in Kyoto for our morning coffee and treat! The coffee was great, the food was delish and the staff were lovely. We felt like real locals here and when we left, we purchased a bag of coffee beans so we could have some sentido goodness back home!

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
