We had wonderful food in this little restaurant close to Gion. Izakaya style, nothing fancy, just pure and basic Japanese food, both grilled and raw. The place is very busy and requires reservation. Also, being summer, it was a little uncomfortable due to excessive temperature,...More

My husband and I had an excellent meal here. They gave English menu and helpful staff. Great sashimi and best tempura - super light batter. Would recommend ordering the sake by glass, they pour it to the brim overflowing to the dish below!

Saw a line of locals and tourists waiting to get in and so decided to jump in as well. Very happy we did. The place specializes in Kyoto-style izakaya cuisine and is elbow-to-elbow. They had an English menu and the staff was friendly and attentive....More

Stumbled upon this place by accident, very nice and local place, almost no tourists, small but tasty dishes, made in front of you

We randomly chose this place after wandering for hours, and we were starving, which was probably not a good way to show up to this place when one of us doesn't eat fish. If you enjoy fish and sushi, this place is ok; the sashimi...More

Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko"
in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and
entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners,
Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with
gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the
streets on their way to and from work, where they fan
dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion
