In this restaurant, you will be served authentic Japanese cuisine with Halal correspondence, which is not yet common in Japan. They are eliminating pork from the stage of meals for the staff thoroughly. Halal menu is updated monthly (reservation is necessary before 2 days ago)....More

We were recommended this place by our Ryokan. The hostess and the owner were. Very gracious and kind. We had ordered the basic dinner course at Y15,000+Tax+Service (Y18,450/person). The appetizer portioned dishes were incredibly beautiful with the freshest ingredients that tantalized our taste buds. Certainly...More

Food quality below average at highly exagerated price. Reception extremelly friendly, service great, but the essential, ie food, average or below. Great disapointment on michelin rankings

Michelin starred restaurants are becoming questionable. The "2" star is outrageous and disqualifies Michelin reference. Dining there tonight at more than 40.000 yens was a ripp off, given below average quality of food, when compared with other great Kyoto restauranrs. Service was very kind, though.

Went there for lunch, in total there were 4 of us. We were sitting at a private room in the back with a view of the river. The owner (the chef's wife) introduced herself and welcomed us at the beginning of our meal. From then...More

There are probably many restaurants in Kyoto which are older, Tankuma Honke is a mere 85 years old and currently owned and run by the third generation with the fourth already working in the kitchen. Mrs Tankuma greets the guests and her husband is the...More

Description
The refined sweetness of spring bamboo shoots, The sharp, refreshing taste of young summer sweetfish, The wafting scent of autumn matsutake mushrooms, The powerful richness of winter soft-shelled turtle... Deep, intricate flavors found only in the finest ingredients, and brought out to the full. Monmo cuisine means preparing food "au naturel." Rather than adding flavor, savor the essence of foods. Tableware of plain and simple elegance. The moment you encounter the essence is when the flavors come alive, without the need for embellishment -.a moment to be prized. We do not make anything -We simply serve up the seasons of Japan's ancient capital. Today's diners, Today's arrangements, Today's timing Honke Tankuma has seven rooms. Each room changes a little by season and day-by-day. A single flower. A single hanging scroll. A single dish. Just for today's diners. No long explanations Just the spirit of good service The Honke Tankuma dedication to service by the River Kamo , Higashiyama, the River Takase ... On December 13, the day Kyoto throws its arms open to the New Year, we took our first step, in 1928 Honke Tankuma continues where it has always been seeking ever better ways to serve. Retaining the air, the ways, of Old Kyoto for the guests we welcome today An unchanging welcome awaits you in this unchanging city
