I would not say that this place is a tourist trap. When I stayed there, a lot of locals had dinner there, too. But I would not say either that you get excellent Sushi. The prices are just too low to get really good fish....In my eyes, they serve better Sushi as you would get in a Japanese Supermarket (which is still better than most of the Sushi one can have in Germany) and they have a huge selection of different fish and other seafood. But I still would rate this place just as a very average Japanese Sushi place. It's OK - but do not expect anything special.More

First impression was positive although clearly a touristy place. Nice view of the river, greeted warmly, and the place looked nice. Shortly after we were seated, a big group at the next table sat down and started smoking. Seriously!? What decade are the owners living...in? Allowing smoking at a sushi place is beyond poor taste (no pun intended). So my wife and I and our two kids spent the rest of the meal eating sushi that tasted of cigarettes and could not get out of there fast enough. Was the sushi good? Not particularly, and especially not with the thoughtless patrons at the next table. Shame on this place for allowing smoking, which imposes a health hazard on all of their non smoking customers. If you are a smoker and sushi lover, this is the place for you. Otherwise stay away.More

Extremely disappointing. The fact that there were very few locals in the restaurant should have given us a clue. The quality of the sushi was no better than you'd find in a supermarket in the U.K. Portion sizes were very small, the amount of wasabi was...very inconsistent, the rice was poorly constructed and the fish (which was pre-cut) kept slipping away from the rice.More

Expect a queue during lunch/dinner peak. We had counter seats, which was great because then the sushi is handmade in front of you and served directly to your plate (which is actually just bamboo leaves, isnt that cool). The fish is fresh and the rice...is warm. It is also located right next to the river so the view is also great.More

I really liked this Sushi restaurant. You sit at the counter and the "sushi master" is preparing it in front of you. Big choice and amazing taste.

Quite a long wait to be seated, well in excess of 45 minutes and the waiting area is not overly pleasant. No drinks offered in this time and the service in this period was non existent which was in stark contrast to the excellent service...inside. Food itself was good, we enjoyed the vegetable tempura, yellow tail, and salmon, and the pricing was very reasonable. It was however disappointing to see whale meat on the menu. We checked the website prior to visiting as we try not to support places which sell whale meat however this was not clearly labelled. Whilst our food was good, we would not choose to return.More

We tried a variety of sushi restaurants on our two week trip to Japan but this was the standout example. Why? The old adage that you get what you pay for is very true for sushi. In this instance it was a case of pay...a little more and get a lot more. High quality sushi made to order. River side location with a balcony overlooking the water. Avoid mass produced tourist traps on the main drag and give this place a try. You won't be disappointed!More

We had to wait 30 minutes to get in but as this was our first Sushi experience it was worth doing. The food is prepared in front of you and we could order in stages. There was a good selection of Sushi and it was...delicious. There was a mixture of seafood you will know and some more adventurous things. Highly recommended.More

When you forget about the rigid rules displayed at the entrance mostly targeted at cheap tourists ... sorry to say ... this is a fantastic place to enjoy this fantastic food. Especially when seated around the long bar tables. Entertaining for once. But really fantastic...flavor, fresh and well prepared is this probably one of the best Sushi places I have been to in Japan over these many years. Also to highlight: Very reasonably priced for the quality of the food. Especially of course all these wonderful choices of sushi and sashimi.More

We went there at 7PM and we had to wait a little bit because the restaurant was already crowded. After 20 minutes (do not forget to put your name on the list), we finally get a place at the bar. It was really great to...see the cooks make the suchis in front of us. The food was really good. Including our kid of 5 years old liked the suchis!!!! The staff is really kind and helpful for non japanese people. The price are very correct for Kyoto.More

I think so, I didn't pay much attention to the rest of the menu but I remember they had other dishes besides sushi like soups and I think tempura as well.
