After struggling to find veggie food in Tokyo, this was a welcome find. We ordered three of the four vegetarian options and none disappointed. Great service. Closed its doors at 7.30.

Mimiko specialises in udon noodles served in a curry sauce. The sauce is quite sweet and salty, and different from any other kinds of curry. We ate dinner here one night and it was quiet, but service was very quick and the food was delicious. If you are a strict vegetarian or vegan you can ask for the vegetarian menu... More

Found this restaurant through Mimiko. Very central and accessible. English menu helped narrow down the choice and we ordered four dishes. All good. One of them tasted like Maggi noodles and the kids loved it! Helpful staff.

I tried the white curry special udon and find it salty. I dont think it deserve a good rating for that particular udon. My partner ate the nikku (beef) curry udon and it was also salty. Maybe we had higher expectation since it got alot of good ratings. The chewiness of the udon was normal. It might be other udons... More

Being a vegetarian traveling in Japan can be rough. I was so happy to find Mimikou- Curry Udon Noodle house! They serve amazing Udon and have several options for vegetarians. The dashi (which was delicious) was made of kelp. This is a great stop for a wonderful meal. We had dinner upstairs but I think downstairs is a day-time noodle... More

Just finished lunch here after looking around some of the nearby temples. It's in a great location, cheap (my noodles were 800yen and were very filling with lots of tasty prawns! The other half had a more expensive option with pork and tofu at 1000, also really good). Definitely recommend for a quick, affordable and very tasty meal! (English menu... More

Staying in Gion

Neighborhood Profile
Gion is Kyoto's famed Geisha District (called "Geiko" in Kyoto). Though Gion's many tea houses and entertainment restaurants are closed to foreigners, Geiko and Maiko in their traditional makeup with gilded hair in full kimono can be seen drifting the streets on their way to and from work, where they fan dance, sing, and play instruments for customers. Gion lights up at night, when the ancient-looking streets glow with lanterns along the river, where weeping willows catch the starlight and the air is warmed with conversation. Groups pass through to populate the restaurants and bars along the riverfront, but Gion still manages to be a mostly quiet district, due in large part to limited automotive traffic through many of its streets. Gion is a wonderful place to indulge in Kyoto's local and customary cuisines, and is best enjoyed after dark.
