We were staying nearby so went for dinner. Staff very friendly. We each got a tontaksu (local for my husband, Canadian for me). It comes with a large serving of rice, cabbage and miso soup. There are sauces on the table you can mix with...sesame seeds as a dipping sauce. Not a super cheap meal (¥5000 with a beer and a highball) but wow! The ingredients were amazing quality. The pork so soft it melts in the mouth with the crispiest breading. Delicious and well worth the visit!More

One of the best Tonkatsu place I have been. Various cuts of pork cutlets nicely breaded and deep fried. The breading was just nice to hold the meat and the croquettes were fantastic. For around SGD $23, you can get a lunch set with 120g...tenderloin tonkatsu, a large scallop croquette, free flow barley rice, cabbage and miso soup. There are slightly more expensive cuts with deep fried oysters as well. The miso soup was not the run-of-the type in some restaurants - the ones served had proper chunks of burdock, reddish, carrots and veggies. It wasn't too salty as well. Service staff were very attentive and provided great service. Definitely my stop in Kyoto.More

Though the food was good but they have a “policy” of a compulsory order per person and no sharing of the rice, soup and side dish. I find this not very feasible as their portion is big and we could not finish which would be...wasteful. Possibly this is due to they have free refills for the rice, soup and side dish but we would not be taking it anyway. Furthermore I do not see this “policy” written in their menu. Price is above average as well.More

Nice restaurant, good food and it was fun to do his own sesame sauce. However, the dishes are a little expensive.

My partner and I had an unenjoyable experience. We each had the Mangalica pork, which I found Katsukura’s version bland and slightly undercooked. Second, I agree with earlier reviews about the restaurant arbitrarily using dynamic currency conversion, which makes your bill more expensive if you...are a tourist. Lastly, our service was poor. The table across from us was given more attention than our table, and I suspect this because we are foreigners and could not speak Japanese well. I will commend the restaurant for having an efficient system, but I can not recommend this restaurant for tourists for the aforementioned, and aggravating, reasons.More

We had an excellent lunch. Staff very friendly and helpful. Explained to us how to grind our sesame seed to make the sauce to dip our breaded pork.

Tonkatsu was on the list of one of our party who was out to try as many different things as he could. The breaded meat or fish is served with a sauce which is tasty but not spicy. Great fun to be given a bowl...of sesame seeds with pestle and mortar and a sheet of instructions! Grind your seeds to taste, add a selected sauce, dip meat into sauce to eat. Soup was nice and the cabbage surprisingly good. None of us had any room to go back for a refill of rice or cabbage.More

One of our best meals in Kyoto. Food excellent. English-friendly menu. Great staff. Our kids (3yo and 9mo) were welcome, and also enjoyed the food. We were there early because of the kids (5:30pm). When we left there was a decent queue. If you want...to try Tonkatsu in Kyoto then this place is worth trying.More

My partner & I went there as suggested by our Japanese friend and we loved the Tonkatsu set menu! Nice, classy atmosphere with moderate prices and really worth the detour.

We stopped in here without any research, just wanted a Japanese style dinner. The food here was good and I like we got to make our own sauce with the sesame seeds.
