If I could, I would give this place three and a half stars. Okakita is a restaurant specialising in noodles. The service was friendly and efficient. I had a bowl of udon with shredded, deep-fried tofu and beaten egg. The dish was good, but not fantastic. I found the dashi lacking a little in depth of flavour. The udon were... More

The most amazing udon! We had to queue for a table for about an hour, but it was worth the wait. The egg soup udon with tempura shrimp is a hands down winner. The staff do not speak very good English, but we got by with a lot of miming and an English menu.

I just wish I could go back to Kyoto and try that noodles and eggs one more time... If you are a egg-lover like myself, Japan is a heaven for us..same goes with this ramen. The softness of the noodles and eggs were unbareable Really recommend this restaurant ;-)

THE BEST udon i have ever eaten. I do not like udon usually because it is unnecssarily filling and too round and chewy. But this one was SO SOFT AND SLIPPERY. AND THE SOUP WAS F U L L OF UMAMI 😋😋😋 One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in Kyoto. I will definitely visit again!!!!!!!!!!

Was here after visiting Heian Shrine, and it was surprisingly good! We had both the soba and udon, and the udon is soft and tasty, unlike the usual udon that can be rather tough to chew. My friend had the egg soup which was nice as well. Service was wonderful, and they have an english menu too! :) Would visit... More

Really nice restaurant with excellent soups and very reasonable prices. Excellent choice especially if you want to skip the insane line for the restaurant next door!

The udon is excellent! Expect a long line. While in line the staff provided an English menu and took orders. So by the time we got in (~40min) the food arrived at our table very quickly. I had the 'Nishin' which was fish (herring) with buckwheat noodles and it was outstanding. The broth was savory, the noodles were al dente,... More

This place was recommended by our guide. Lovely atmosphere. However, none of the staff spoke English. The food was good, put the portions were small. It took forever to get our waitresses attention.

My family enjoyed the udon and food there very much. We went there on a Thursday morning around 10:45am and there was a queue. We are amongst the first batch to be in once it opened. Everyone seems to know what to order and they ordered it quickly. It took us sometimes to decided what to have. There is English... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
