We went here after eating at one of the branches in Tokyo. It wasn't as good (at the Tokyo branch you got to choose the grade of pork etc) however it was really delicious and affordable. The convenient location just adds to the appeal. Don't hesitate, just eat!

Ordered loin katsu, was juicy, tender and delicious. Love this chain for tonkatsu. Also tried Butagumi in Tokyo, the katsu there was incredible but as a person with an unsophisticated palate I still enjoyed Katsukura better. Atmosphere was nice and casual, albeit consistent lines. Service was wonderful. Would haunt this place and get very fat if I lived in Kyoto.

I would really highly recommend this restaurant. The katsu is the best I've ever had. It was soooo good...really fluffy and crumbly outside, yet so tender inside. Also it wasn't oily as they deep fried everything so well. The set dish come with salad, and I really love their original sauce/dressing, which was very nice and unique. I was really... More

Servings were large with fluffy and soft rice. Bit of a wait but food cane out quick. Grinding of sesame seeds was fun and distracted us from the wait for food. Egg ham cheese was delicious - must try!

The foods is awesome, the environment is good and the service is excellence. We were 9 people from New Zealand and Australia. Enjoy the best Katsu ever eaten. Tender, juicy and no smell.

Visiting Kyoto for the second time this year we arrived in the station and our kids immediately wanted lunch here! Delicious tonkatsu and easily accessible English menu!

This branch of Katsukura is very easy to reach, 10F The Cube of Kyoto Station. Order set tenderloin + prawn. Prawn was very long and tasty. Tonkatsu was tender and very good taste. Set is only 1980Y, with unlimited rice.

Had late lunch here, love the barley rice, tonkatsu was nicely fried. Do like the grind sesame sauce. Definitely nice comfort food that can be eaten at any time of the day!

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
