Had a late lunch here. The serving of the porkloin is very generous and the sauces, rice and miso soup are refillable. The only thing that i regret is ordering a 300 yen Cole which comes in a glass. The rest of the food and experience is wonderful. The rice if very good and filling. The miso soup is great... More

Not being a great fan of Japanese cuisine other than sushi it was a great meal. The staff tried to be helpful but English is not a strong point. It wasn't obvious for a foreigner how certain things were meant to be eaten but we copied the locals.

This place is brilliant. The pork melts in your mouth and is complemented by unlimited cabbage and rice. You also get to crush your own sesame seeds which makes the flavour even more delicious. We queued for about 15 minutes (visited 8pm) but was completely worth the wait. A must visit if you're out and about in Kyoto.

This meal stood out for us as it was first tonkatsu experience and we were blown away! Grinding our own sesame seeds to make the sauce was a great idea.

My wife and I were staying at the Hotel Granvia at the Kyoto Station so, we did not have to go very far. We liked the pork cutlet and shredded cabbage. There were many sauces you should try on the pork and cabbage. Also, I should mention that they take credit cards.

We typically go to Maizen and was told it was one of the best tonkatsu. Yes, it is very good, but Katsukura is also very good. Both have unlimited rice and cabbage. Here you grind your own sesame seeds. The rice is a bit different here, a thicker grain. Both are good.

We had already visited Katsukura in Sanjo and loved it, so we were thrilled that there was a second one in Kyoto Station which we visited just before catching our train back to Tokyo. The food was wonderful - we had the pork and shrimp set which was delicious. Service is friendly and quick and we were able to grab... More

This restaurant is located in the 11th floor of the cube in the Kyoto station. Most of the customer are foreigner and they also provide the English menu. The food is good but if you have to wait for the queue you can choose another restaurant with the same quality around the 10-11th floor of the cube.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
