Guess it's a known place for tourist, there are mostly foreigners there. The pork cutlet is to die for!! This is one place we will go back to for sure! One thing that didn't taste good was the egg, bacon & cheese croquet, too salty. Other than that, we enjoyed our meal!

One of the best tonkatsu (breaded pork chop) meals served.Good menu selection also has giant prawns, potato and vegetable crochetes. The food is delicious and the servings of diced cabbage, miso soup and barley with rice is unlimited. The restaurant has English menu and staff speak reasonably ok Englishto communicate and understand. Price wise is reasonable.Thoroughly enjoyed this meal.

Katsukura Kyoto is an extremely popular chain of tonkatsu restaurants based in Kyoto and specializes in tonkatsu - deep fried breaded choice cuts of pork served with rice, miso soup and freshly shredded cabbage. Apart from the usual tonkatsu sets, Katsukura also serves a unique Yuba rolled seasonal vegetable cutlet together with the pork fillet, which was what I had... More

The pork cutlets are amazingly fresh and crisp. The accompaniments are intriguing. You grind your own sesame paste and then add one another of several sauces either spicy, sour or sweet. The cabbage comes shredded and you add yet another sauce. In addition to pork there is shrimp and a vegetable cutlet. Set meals are featured and there is an... More

We spent quite a bit of time trying to find this restaurant, but it was worth it in the end. We visited for dinner and only had to wait about 5 minutes outside for a table for 4. The pork was tender and the cabbage salad fresh with a lovely dressing. Very deserving of its high trip advisor ranking.

Katsukura Kyoto station is located on the 11th floor of Isetan department store, which is directly linked to JR Kyoto station. This restaurant is a branch of famous Katsukura, but because of its location the most of customers are visitors. The restaurant is not spacious, and you might wait in line for lunch time. Their Tonkatsu is excellent. This time... More

Last year my wife and I discovered this restaurant that states to hail from Kyoto. Kyoto is for us the most friendly vibed city in Japan and the manager gives you a warm welcome. The fact that he cannot show a dutch menu is easily forgotten when you sink your teeth in their awesome food. The sauces are mighty fine... More

When we arrived there was a line of about 15 people so I anticipated a long wait. However this place is efficiently run and we were seated within 15 minutes. As we were standing the host handed us a menu and he can back to take our order. Thus, we were served within minutes of being seated. Fast, efficient, and... More

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighborhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
