Had two set menus here for $18000 yen. Steak was great to try, melts in your mouth! We left stuffed. The dessert was incredible, maybe the best creme brûlée I've ever had. The space was great and the service was excellent. I wish the staff was a bit more friendly and engaging... It's a bit like clock work for them... More

Very nice meal, especially the beef cutlet sandwich. Wonderful staff as well, definitely recommended. If possible, reserve before you go, since the place is quite small. Limited seating available. But it's worth it.

We got here after reading review from Tripadvisor. We got lucky since we didn't make any reservation. When we got there after long walk from the nearest MRT Station, the place is almost close. But they give us spare since we are party of 8 people... The place is rather small but the food inside is amazing. We ordered the... More

But if you're going, put your money where the meat is. The rest is OK, but not more than that. Meat was good - we had the sirloin served with both salt and various sauces. I've had better, but this was still very good meat. Make sure you eat it the way they recommend. Lots of fat that has to... More

As the title says, make a reservation. Unfortunately for us, we didn't but we were lucky that the manager squeezed us in at 600 pm when we arrived by taxi and informed us that we had to finish our meal within 2 hrs. I didn't see why we wouldn't and the reason we chose this restaurant was once again by... More

Though it's a little tough to find (even for taxi drivers), Hafuu Honten is worth the effort. Set in a quiet, lovely neighborhood, the restaurant serves exceptional fare - particularly their beef dishes. Filet of beef practically melts in your mouth, it's that tender. We opted for the Wagyu Beef Filet with Teriyaki sauce the first night and without the... More

The best meal I've ever had. Wagyu beef is simply amazing, out of this world. It melts in your mouth. We took two set menus for two people. 210€ and a fully satiesfied belly. Worth every euro. Anyway, you can eat just the beef for around 50€ each I guess. Almost forgot to mention the service. They speak english and... More

The small place is full on any day of the week so please call ahead and make a reservation. The locations is a bit surprising and its sort of nestled in a residential neighborhood near the palace. We took the subway to the Marutamachi station and walked to it.... maybe 10-15 minutes. We settled for a California red wine.... yes... More

Could not recommend more. We spent the last two weeks traveling through Korea and Japan eating Korean Barbecue and sushi and even experienced kaiseki in a ryokan. We've had more than a few fine dining experiences. But tonight we ate at the counter of Hafuu Shogoin (new location of Hafuu Honten) and ordered from the set menu. Every course elicited... More

It was a pleasure to sit on the counter and be able to see the way they cook. The wagyu was very delicious and presentation was pretty. Good experience overall

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
