The Wagyu Sirloin Steak is mind blowing. It is the best steak I have ever eaten in my entire life. It's so, so soft, and it shrunk in my mouth (melting as some people like to describe it). I ordered the Wagyu Filet Steak immediately afterwards, but did not experience any shrinking sensation. Also, it was not as good as... More

Wow, wow and wow. This place was amazing. The steaks here are the best I have ever eaten by a long stretch. I have eaten in great places in NYC and LA but nothing comes close to Japanese steaks and the preparation of Hafuu Honten was simply amazing! My husband and I both had the recommended set menus which was... More

First of all: They do NOT serve Kobe beef. And by this, I mean REAL Kobe, not the American "we don't care about other people's rights" "Kobe", REAL Kobe. This is beef that is similar in quality, but is not certified as per the requirements. But it is Insanely good. Like - melt-in-your-mouth good. I've had plenty of real Kobe... More

Because nothing is a 100%. Friendly staff, great restaurant and we were sat at the bar facing the chefs - so good. The food is superb - and I wish I knew the adjectives to accurately describe our set menu and sake dishes. We would get the Shinkansen from anywhere in Japan to go back for a meal - it's... More

Have been there end of 2014 and could not wait to get back for the fabulous wagyu beef menu. It was once more delicious and good value for the money. A seat at the bar alos let'y you experience the staff in action and is particualrly cool if you travel alone. Resertations strongly recommended.

I would probably take the risk to go against most of the reviews on TA, but I have to say we had a very good dinner, from start to the end. Of course, the Wagyu steak is the ultimate piece, so tasty and juicy, perfectly cooked to your order, but other courses were quite good too. Starters, hot and cold,... More

This restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel. When the taxi pulled in front of Hafuu, I admittedly was a bit skeptical; a small non-descript facade on a small alley. It ended up being a great meal. The Wagyu sirloin from Kyushu was buttery good. The service was attentive. Somewhat of a limited wine list, but adequate.

We went there twice in our 6 day stay in Kyoto. The best dinner Ive had in Japan! We had the traditional set menu with the sirloin steak, (its a 7 course meal) the appetizers, soup, salad, dessert were all exceptional! The steak ofcourse was delicious and was literally melting in my mouth. Apart from the set meal, do also... More

Staying in City Center

Neighborhood Profile
City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.
