My family and I came here after visiting Ginkakuji. I learned about it from the Kyoto Lonely Planet. It sounded like a great lunch spot and we were delighted with the meal. For whatever reason, it was a little harder than expected to find, but we eventually got there. It was very busy. We put our name down for a... More

My wife and I had dinner here tonight. We picked it because of the reviews. We were promptly seated by friendly staff. The ambiance was nice and you have your choice of traditional seating. I chose the western because I recently had knee surgery. The food was excellent and the price reasonable.

We came here with our Japanese friend and were quite lucky so as they lack a full English menu (they do have a English menu but its very basic in form and the details of how to eat the dish is not explained at all - even our Japanese friend was not aware of what to do with certain elements... After several substandard meals in Kyoto (in other cities in Japan you can just pick a place at random and know it'll be pretty good, in Kyoto you can't), I decided to seek out a place in the guidebook and I'm sure glad I did, this was the best meal I had in Kyoto. I had a set containing their... More

After visiting Ginkakuji, we went looking for Omen Udon. It is so near to Ginkakuji, that we almost missed it! We arrived before 12noon and hence there was no queue and got a table immediately. We ordered their signature noodle set that comes with 7 kind of pickled vegetables with tempura. My husband prefers the hot udon and I like... More

Loved loved loved the food. Addiction is still on. Coming back for more😍. Very close to where we stayed in Ginkakuji and with tourist attractions around. Must visit place for a first timer in Japanese food and the whole experience with it.

This was on of the most delicious plates we had in Japan. We took chilled udon noodles. They are served with a sauce and many things to put in. The service is good and there's an english menu. You have the possibility to sit on chairs or on the floor (traditional japanese way)

After a morning of temples and walking the Path of Philosophy to Ginkaku-ji we sat down to a well deserved delicious meal. I ordered their speciality of soba noodles with 7 vegetables and cold broth (since it was a hot day), and my husband ordered the same but also with tempura. Be sure to add all of the vegetables and... More

Perfect meal for pre/post Ginkaku-ji & Philosopher's path. Hand made soba with well balanced broth (be sure to use the spices at the table to turn it up a notch or two!). Tempura was quality too!
