We came in to escape the rain and stumbled across this bar serving craft beer. Good selection of beer, they serve small bar snacks as well. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable

Takanoya offers a very pleasant environment to enjoy craft beer and have a meal. The design is modern, the space is nicely lit, smoking is NOT allowed (you’d be surprised at how many restaurants in Japan allow smoking) and they offer a range of craft...beers and snacks. Food options include Chinese dumplings, salt chicken, yuba, salads, Duck breast and other like items enough for a meal. Takanoya does not brew its own beers but offers draft beers from 8-10 other brewers along with ciders - which are not yet popular in Japan. The food presentation is quite well done. We really liked the salt chicken and the Takanoya salad as well as the sashimi. Prices are higher than for most restaurants but still quite reasonable for the overall experience.More

We came very hungry after a long trip, were the first customers. The deep fryer wasn't working yet, so, no fries, nothing else that would require a deep fryer. We ordered something that was presented as "Kyoto special appetizers" (or sth. like that), which turned...out to be boiled pumpkin, meat balls (neither of which is really Kyoto cuisine), and some other thing - which was a bit better. The "hot pot" was quite disapointing, too. The last dish was roasted pieces of beef with salad, which was quite decent. Overall, the food was mostly a disapointment, and the coolish service didn't make it any more appreciable. The place serves some tasty beers, but be ready to pay ca. 1300 yen (13 USD) p/beer. We headed straight to the yakitori place behind the corner after this dinner, and will probably not return here, the main reasons being uninteresting and (we thought) overpriced food.More

Perfect place for nice beer and good snacks. A bit expensive, but the atmosphere, the employees and the local patrons compensate fully!

Came here after walking all day, perfect end to touring . Small 15 or so bar sests. They have a lot of good US craft beer on tap but I wish they would have had more than 1 local beer because I wanted to try...different things that i can’t from home . But great staff , food was excellent - izakaya style - with some sushi , katsu, braised pork belly , dumplings , etc . Menu has English subtitles for foreigners .More

This is a bar first and place for food second but that doesn't take away from the quality of the food. People come for the rotating beer on tap (they also have a regular cider tap). It's friendly and the kind of place where you'll...end up chatting to the regulars staff, highly recommend.More

Helpful staff here, and at their sister bar a couple of blocks further south. It is craft beer, mixture of Japanese and world wide. It isn’t cheap, craft beer isn’t in Japan, particularly in Kyoto, where everything is a tad more expensive anyway. We came...here twice as were staying close by, eating as well. The team are super fun, helpful with choices. Our 2nd visit coincided with their Oktoberfest, another great night. A bit different, not for everyone, we had fun, popular with the locals so can’t be bad.More

If you like a good beer and amazing food, this place is a must! My partner and I stopped here after our original dinner plans fell through, so pleased they did! The staff are super friendly and the food was to die for, not to...mention the great selection of beers available on tap!More

Came upon this bar when staying at the Noku Hotel nearby. Great range of world craft beers on offer and a great selection of cooked at the bar food, including some good vegetarian items. Very friendly staff and a delightful chef.

This place is terribly overpriced. They charged me Y1,000 ($10) for a tiny glass of beer, no more than 200ml (see photo). I thought there was some misunderstanding, but it appears there wasn't. Save your money and go elsewhere
