Really delicious food

It's really close to Randen Arashiyama station in which you should try going there by Randen one way (another is by JR for boarding Romantic Sagano train) as the station is very beautiful with lot of restaurants, snack and souvenirs to buy. With comments for long queue, I was trying to be there at... read more

Sitting inside the temple in a magnificent Japanese garden is a serene experience already. If you then add a wonderfully simple, yet, very tasty vegetarian meal on top you want to become a monk yourself. Unfortunately, I love meat too much to give up my current lifestyle. Ah well, it just means I have to come back again.

It was a great experience of tofu based vegetarian lunch Shigetsu. It's located inside tenryuji, hence required 500yen entrance fee. I made reservation 1 week before my visit, it was fully booked on the time we visited. The food is actually very good, we love it and would come again. Highly recommended!!!

Wonderful experience to sample Shojin Ryori Cuisine in a stunning setting. We had the 3,000 Yen "Snow Set". Beautifully presented. Don't usually enjoy vegan cuisine but this meal was the exception. You can book online. Enjoy!

Great experience to enjoy Japanese traditional vegetarian food in the world heritage. There is only tatami room available when we visited so be prepared.

I don't usually go out of my way to eat vegetarian food. But it was an exception in Japan as I wanted to seek out traditional dishes that are not available in the U.S. First off, I did not plan my day in Kyoto to eat at Shigetsu. I had planned to visit Arashiyama and read that I had to... More

Hands down best and most refined vegetarian food we've ever had. Very clean and fresh meal that helps put you in that zen place. Very satisfied and full nonetheless. You sit on the floor in a main room with other diners, the restaurant is located inside the temple complex so you need to pay entrance fee to access. Nice views... More

My wife is a landscape architect and sometime vegetarian. The combination of the beautiful gardens and the carefully prepared vegetarian lunch set was too much to pass up. It was only 30 minutes by train to get hear from the Gion area where we are staying. The range of flavors and presentation were wonderful. Eating in a tatami room in... More

This temple is beautiful and I would recommend eating here. The food was delicious and I was excited to finally get an all vegetarian meal. There is clearly a lot of care taken in the food preparation. It was also a lot of fun to eat on the tatami floor with other people in the room.

I came here after being recommended by a friend to try "monk" food. It is simply delicious! At the time, only the Yuki option was available, but it was more than enough. There are several dishes of food, including tofu, clear soup, a soup made with tofu, cucumber salad, steamed veggies, pickles, eggplant with miso, and rice. It was very... More
