This is a very small traditional place. We had udon and soba. Each of the noodle dishes had different toppings. They included shrimp tempura, poached herring or vegetables. The broth was subtle and good, however, I would not classify this place as a gourmet experience....More

This little gem is tucked away from the busyness of Kawaramachi-dori. There is no English sign out the front, however the restaurant next door (Ten-you) has a small sign hanging above. Misoka-an is to the right of Ten-you. A small menu with a variety of...More

At first time we were late (already closing). But we came here for the 2nd time and it was truly worth it. We had a great time at Misoka-an. Warmly welcomed, delicious udon and soba. Tempura is one of the best we ever had! p.s....More

Arriving before check in time, our hotel recommended Misoka-An for lunch. We are so pleased that we asked as we would never have found this 300 year old restaurant otherwise. Everything outside is in Japanese but don't be put off as staff speak a little...More

My wife and I enjoyed warm soba for lunch during a cold afternoon. The duck soba was fantastic and a great choice in following the Japanese tradition of having Toshikosi soba on New Year's Eve.

Very poor menu, very little food, high prices. Prepare to take your shoes off. Left hungry. I was expecting some great soba and it was kind of bland. How has it survive for 300 years? Our lousy hotel recommended it because the place we wanted...More

Lovely restaurant with one table for western style dining. We had lunch there twice. We desired a really good light lunch. The food and service was excellent and price very reasonable. I had hot soba noodles with tempura shrimp twice.

At 31st dec. 2014, Most restaurants in Kyoto was closed (7:00pm.) But Misoka-an was the only opened restaurant in the district and saved us. The taste of soba was also fantastic.

the restaurant has been going since 1710, it was small but lacked atmosphere. For example fluorescent lights in the back room. The sobu sushi was uninspiring and the tempura prawns in broth was subtle but underwhelming. Staff friendly

Loved the soba and fresh ingredients. Ambiance was nothing earth shattering and given all the options in Kyoto, I would suggest for lunch. With a cold beer and friends, made for a great lunch. Recommended.

City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its
blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered
shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street
bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to
peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home
goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center
is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and
clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of
