We loved this Okonomiyaki restaurant. The owners are so welcoming and the food is deeply, deeply satisfying. We had to wait a little for a spot, but it was well worth it. Also, not Japanese but totally delicious was the Rio Grand chile, which the chef/owner makes with love and care. The egg, chives and pork pancake was the hit... More

Eat with the locals in this little hidden gem of a restaurant in a side street not far from Yokogawa Station. Authentic Japanese Okonomiyaki cooked in front of you. Delicious!!

I was surprised when I found the restaurant back in 2014. It is owned by Lopes, a super nice guy, that welcomes foreigners speaking English, Japanese, Portuguese or Spanish. The service is as awesome as the food is. Looking forward to eat more of those delicious okonomiyakis on my next trip to Japan. I super recommend it!

We made the pilgrimage to Okonomiyaki Lopez after reading about the eponymous chef in Matt Goulding's book, "Rice, Noodle, Fish". For those who are interested, the chapter on Okonomiyaki Lopez and, more broadly, the origins of Hiroshima's beloved local dish is available for free as an article (it's called: "The Second Most Famous Thing to Happen to Hiroshima" so just... We made our pilgrimage from Tokyo for this (soon to be very) famous Okonomiyake restaurant. Mr. Lopez makes one of the best, and certainly the most special, jalapeño okonomiyake, in the traditional style. I saw many locals come in and order the famous "pancake" saying "ha-ra-pe-no, oneigai shimasu" with a knowing smile. It was very good. And a very different... More

We read about Lopez months before our trip to Japan in "Rice, Noodle, Fish" and immediately planned on searching this place out when visiting Hiroshima. We were not disappointed, the okonomiyaki was definitely the best we have had (we have tried many others but this one still reigns supreme). Remember to add the jalapeños, too! In addition to great food,... More

Simple, nice and cosy location, with the owner cooking his famous okonomiyaki right in front of you. His English is very good and after a short waiting, I had a place around the grill and being my very first okonomiyaki, he suggested me a basic version and kindly explained me more about it. It was so yummy! at the end,... More

Excellent atmosphere, friendly service and great food. It is always busy. The proof is ....where else in Japan could you see a Gaijin owned restaurant packed with Japanese patrons. I am always the only gaijin in the place.

It's always interesting when a "gaijin" owns a restaurant in Japan - even more so when talking about one of HIroshima's claim to culinary fame. Lopez might not be distinguishable from other okonomiyaki places in Hiroshima were it not for the fact that the dishes other than okonomiyaki are likely unique to an okonomiyaki place - items like a chili... I return to Hiroshima annually. As soon as I arrive to Yokogawa Station, I head straight to Lopez's. I studied abroad in Hiroshima for a year and frequented the restaurant weekly. Now that I'm back in the U.S., it is an annual trip! Go and try it out please. Thank me later. I order with soba noodles. Pork. Green onions.... More
