One travel resource I trust is NY Times,  '72 Hours In' section in particular and their travel reviews in general. Longjing Cao Tang (Dragon Well Manor) was listed as one of must experience destinations of Hangzhou so I put my trust in it despite the surprising price tag of RMB 800 per person.  The manor sits on truly beautifully landscaped... Back to the roots of Chinese food. I loved this place for its traditional taste and look, so lost in today's modern China.

An exquisite restaurant experience with traditional local food that is purchased directly from farmers and growers in the area. They actually document every purchase with a picture and the signature of the vendor. The place has only eight rooms and they are often booked many weeks in advance. It is very popular with the wealthier locals, but for dinner you... More

Firstly I need to say my Chinese companion thought this place was ok. But she is wrong. This place has a set menu priced at about 2000rmb for 2 people including about 9 courses and a cup of tea each. Other drinks are extra. It is not frequented by locals - only tourists who get sucked in by the fake... More

Unless you into Hangzhou Region local food, you should skip this place as it is expensive...very expensive. Taken into account it was a fixed menu, and due to the inability of the service to explain the plates, we left 80 pr cent of the food uneaten. Nevertheless the food was fresh and seemingly well prepared; and if you are game... More

For Occidentals almost every dish has taste and texture that is hard to swallow. There is a prix fixe menu so you cannot chose. The food is way too much and pricey (US$100,00 per person without drinks or wine). I do not recommend it.

This is by far the BEST eating experience I have had for years! You found yourself surrounded by a huge lovely Chinese garden & served by a few private attendants who patiently explained to you how & when the organic produce was purchased where & when per their diary (yes, recorded every day!). The cooked food on the table was... More
