A Saturday work trip, which tends to be boring and bland was greatly improved by a stop at The House of Fish. Having read an article about the restaurant and owner, we were going to try to salvage the day with a late lunch. We...were happily greeted and shown to a table. The menu and specials board were abundant! We were in a fish restaurant so of course we ordered fish! I had the grilled catfish, a side salad and fries. My handsome lunch date ordered fried shrimp and scallops with cole slaw and fries. I was delighted with the catfish, with a great seasoning blend. The 3 pieces were way more than enough. Well seasoned and cooked to perfection! My date takes his fried scallops seriously, rating most seafood restaurants, by this alone. He thought they were perfect! Worth another ‘work trip’. So we will be making another trip soon. Oh and we absolutely loved the banter coming out of the kitchen!More

Really great food and an attentive owner Went on a Thursday night and we were seated rather quickly - we were told that the wait could be two hours on Friday. Ordered a little high priced Pinot Grigio but it was good. Then we ordered...two orders of alligator bites. Most were tender and all lightly battered with a spicy chipotle sauce. They disappeared quickly but seriously the portion sizes are so big for the entrees I would hesitate to order appetizers. We ordered the specials of Halibut and shrimp (2 orders), tuna (1) and snapper. It took awhile as the owner and chef cooks every dish. He did an excellent job on all. The halibut was perfectly seared and the shrimp buttery. The snapper was stuffed with feta, lobster and I forget. But it was very good. The winner was the tuna. Lightly cooked and very tasty. Did I mention the portion sizes were huge? We had asparagus as sides and again they were perfect. We took home another snapper and a catfish layered dinner that I heard was very very good. The owner/chef came out and talked to us. I mentioned I thought he could cut back portion sizes and he said his regulars would revolt. Service was also very very good and I wanted to go back to this place again. Plenty of parking. Great food and great service. It looks a little like a joint but it is so much more. Give it a try.More

We recently visited The House of Fish with some friends and it did not disappoint. The food was excellent, nice portions and friendly happy faces serving us. The menu is large and everything is prepared to order so you may wait a few minutes. If...you want grits are something very special, call ahead while you are driving there. The interior is plain and humble but you come here for the food, enjoy.More

Go to this restaurant if you want great seafood in the Pinehurst area. Fish is fresh and well prepared by people who take pride in their offerings. Wait staff is friendly and efficient. Building needs to be upgraded if they are going to go all...the way with this restaurant. But, until they do, don’t worry about it. Just go and enjoy the wonderful food. Highly recommend the shrimp and oysters, but am really excited by their whole fried fish. You will be really glad you went.More

I recognize fresh-made food takes time. But not this much time… Not even close. We came right at lunch opening and it was well over an hour before our food arrived. It was basic, fried seafood. The appetizer was VERY over-fried (texture was awful). And...the sides tasted OK to me. I honestly have no idea what the long wait was for. Not sure we will give this place another try.More

Finally made it there for dinner. Excellent food. Two of us had their salmon, cooked to perfection. My husband had the citrus grouper, best ever. Hush puppies were very tasty and love the side salad.

My daughter and I read about The House of Fish in ‘Our State’ Magazine and decided to eat there instead of cooking dinner at home. They don’t take reservations so we just showed up. There was a table ready in minutes and we were warned...that our order would take an hour as the chef personally cooks every single order as it comes it. The waitress brought our tea and soda and a salad right away and the meal was ready in more like 30-40 minutes than an hour. My daughter had the maple glazed salmon and grilled shrimp and I had fresh water brim fried. Our servings were enormous and were delicious. The waitress brought tea and coke refills before we asked for them. Everyone was gracious and we enjoyed everything.More

Fish was greasy, fries cold, hush pups tasteless. Have eaten there before and it was better. 06-22-19.
