Now accustomed to having lunch every Friday noon at Omar's, we eat the best couscous of our lives there. A vegetarian Couscous for two after an excellent Moroccan salad or white beans. A real killing. Very good value for money, in an authentic and popular setting. We like it or we don't like it. We love it. See you Friday... Thank you Omar and his “funny ladies” in the kitchen.

We had lunch (3 adults and 2 small children) in this little hidden place well known to the inhabitants of Essaouira and we were not disappointed! Everything is excellent. If you want authentic at a low price, you've come to the right place. Fast and quality service and when the time comes for the bill, you will be very surprised. Thank you Omar for still keeping these low prices. I recommend 1000%. Marie Kokliko

I was on a Friday, decided to try couscous, for a month every Friday I eat couscous in a different city, but this restaurant turned out to be delicious, but I thought what I used to eat was dry. I'll come try Tajin sometime. Thank you, it was delicious. With the best wishes of a guest from Kazakhstan 😁

Before visiting the wonderful walled city, we did some research on the cheapest places to eat, this eatery kept popping up un reviews and blogs, so they were our first destination for a feed. Not only did they not disappoint, out of our 14 day stay we ate here 10 times. Every meal was a delicious banquet. The menu choices are extensive with everyone catered for - several options for vegetarians for example. We were only disappointed we couldn't try more. Omar and the lady chef, are friendly and love what they do - this is on display in every single dish. The list of what we had is long however, the piccies attached tell all. We highly recommend this place as your first stop - this will avoid you being hugely disappointed if you only eat here on your last night!

An amazing find! We met someone in the morning who raved about this place and we were not disappointed. You do wait a long time and we were given the pad to write down our order and take it inside - a bit strange - but this just added to the quirkiness! As we sat there, more and more people were arriving and they just added more tables outside until it was heaving. The food is absolutely divine. We had a lamb tagine and a vegetable tagine with a Moroccan Salad. We will be back!

Chez Omar is just a wonderful place and was my favourite restaurant in Essaouira: 1. The food is simply delicious. Eat Berber Omelette, treat yourself with Couscous on Fridays and enjoy the famous lentil soup. 2. Great value: It is not expensive and compared to the high quality incredible value! 3. Great to meet people: If you want to meet people in Essaouira, go to Chez Omar's rooftop! 4. Wonderful team working at the restaurant!

The best couscous in town! For 2 euros! Friendly service and great food. Make sure you sit downstairs ( the terrace has no view) outside and you will get as an extra bonus watching the street activities. A must visit, especially at lunch!

not expensive but… You get what you pay for, the couscous is decent. We were at the top, waiting more than an hour to be served. The floors are invaded by cats that we constantly have to push aside in order to eat. The Turkish toilets on the roof are unforgettable in themselves, for the rest you can do without them. Hygiene….. but we are not sick. In short, we can avoid the place without regret

Great location and very popular. And there is the problem. We waited over an hour to get drinks and an another hour to get food. And another whole hour for one of our party to get their meal! And all the while not even a smile from the waiter/owner. Sad when Moroccans are such great hosts normally. We only went to Omar because the place next door was full. We should have waited for a table If you do go, order the lamb and prunes tagine. To be fair it’s amazing. But take some entertainment and settle in for a long wait.

Good food but not very warm welcome. The boss always overwhelmed, not smiling promptly. The service is really long, waiting up to 1 hour. Which forced us to leave and go to Jamila's house. A discovery .

Chez Omar is one of Essaouira's best bargains. If you don't mind sitting out on the street or in an upstairs room where you might think you've been forgotten, it's an absolute steal. My personal favourite is the sardine ball tagine (it's about 30 dirhams) but I strongly advise against going anywhere near the fried mixed fish which I can only describe as disgusting. Fish soup isn't fish soup - it's veg soup with added tuna - but I can forgive that at 10 dirhams a bowl. Many places in Essaouira make you feel like you have to buy three courses. Chez Omar won't mind if you sit down and spend 10 dirhams each. No frills but great value.

The food and the service were incredible. The owner very friendly, and treats you like a king. Typical morrocan food. We went there twice. A must-do to blend in the medina of Essaouira.

The food at this little Street restaurant was fantastic. We ate a variety of vegetable dishes and the flavours were fantastic. Different from the usual tagine or couscous (although their tagine was also delicious

We were on a day trip to Essaouira so only had a few hours there. We arrived at Chez Omar and got seated. We placed our order after about 5 minutes. After 30 minutes a Moroccan guy sat beside us (we were asked if that was ok). Within 5 minutes of him arriving he got his Tagine served to him......we still had NOTHING!! We asked the waiter how much longer, he said it will take time. So after another 10 minutes...IT WAS NOW 45 MINUTES SINCE WE ARRIVED??!!??...we asked the Moroccan guy to ask the waiter how much longer as the waiter didn't speak English and we didn't speak French. So he asked and said it would still be a while!! The Moroccan guy said it depends on what you order, saying his Tagine would have been on since this morning. WE had ordered a Tagine, Couscous and Soup!!! I mean you would have gone to the fields and picked the Couscous by then. So after 1 HOUR WAITING!!! we decided to go. We paid for the 2 drinks we had gotten and Omar was not pleased...said NO, NO, YOU CAN'T. But we just left. A 1 hour wait for food that should have already been cooked is in comprehensible. However, the longer we sat there, the more my skin was crawling. To say that the place is ABSOLUTELY FILTHY is understating it. People were using a sink to wash their hands after eating.....I'd want to sterilise my hands after using the sink. Cats were walking in and out of the entrance, and the cooking was happening just inside the door. Washing up liquid/detergent doesn't cost that much!!?? There is no excuse for that level of dirt. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!
