Disclaimer: due to covid-19, sitting at restaurants is not allowed so there is only take-away method (which has been catered for by Ah-Youn restaurant by making customers choose from a menu at the entrance of the restaurant and then entering to pay only). The incident...occured on the 11 June 2021 when we came to the restaurant to order food for dinner. We came and gave our order at the door with the nice waitress. There was only one menu (in form of booklet) which was available at the door from which customers could order from. We ordered 3 dishes (as per pictures) namely : Japanese tofu, boeuf à la sauce au poivre (beef pepper sauce) , and a riz frit poulet œuf (fried rice with egg and chicken). We also gave the waitress our glass bowls to put the food (still another one of our habits when going there- not taking the plastic take away charged at Rs15). We then proceeded to pay at the cashier found inside the restaurant. At this point, (and as per usual but which should have already arose suspicion) we were only given the “bank transaction bill“ with the total amount paid but not the actual bill with the specifications of the order. We did not seem to worry as usually the bills tally when we calculate afterwards. Coming back at the door (as no one is allowed inside the restaurant except during payment) and while waiting for the food to be prepared, we started calculating our order based on the menu from which we had just ordered. The total did not tally with what we had paid at the counter (it was Rs90 more). At first we thought that they charged us with the plastic take aways (which indeed they did) while we had already given our own bowls for take away. We indicated same to waitress who proceeded to check with cashier and returned us the money (Rs15x3). But still we realised that the totals were not the same and that we had paid more than what we should have for the food too. What happened (which we understood later) was that they gave us an outdated menu at the door where the price of the beef was still Rs290 instead of Rs335 something. Again, we politely indicated the error to the lady (waitress) who transmitted the message to the cashier. We thought that she would be coming back with the money which was taken (without our consent) but she simply told us that it was a mistake on the menu. We were surprised as we thought that being their mistake, they should have at least given us some explanation or apologies or even returned the money. Please note that the difference amount was only Rs90 which is really not a lot and could have gone to tips in another situation but what happened afterwards was unbelievable and we were distraught not by the error itself but rather the way it was handled by the cashier). When we asked to talk to the cashier, he came and we told him about the error. He brushed it off by making sound like we should have known that the menu was outdated. Please note that it was also the ONLY menu available to customers. He then brought another menu from behind the counter (inside the restaurant) to show us the updated price. We told him that it was not our mistake but rather theirs, and that it was not ethical to display a price but charge for another one. Instead of apologizing like any other sound person would have, he rather entered into a rage and started yelling at us and cussing. We did not accept such behaviour and retaliated (yet in a polite way) as we were in the right. He cursed even more and told us to WALK AWAY IF WE WERE NOT SATISFIED. He categorically refused to give us back the money and kept repeating that we should have known that the menu was updated (how could we have known when there was only one menu available???). At this point our food was already being prepared so we could not leave. The man was clearly not in the mood to give in and accept the mistake. We had to ask him to call the boss/owner who then had to calm him and he then FINALLY GAVE US BACK THE MONEY (but without admitting any wrong on their side or even apologizing). Because of only Rs90 and the SUPER EGO ( ego surdimensionné) of a disrespectful cashier, they lost a loyal customer. (I would like to point out that I did not have my phone with me or else I would have taken a picture of displayed menu and the difference in prices) Please be careful. I do not want to make false allegations with regards their integrity as the boss (owner) was willing to gave us back the money but the cashier made as if his life depended on this Rs90. However I still find it sketchy that the only menu that was presented was the one with an error. Could they have done this before? Putting a said price and charging for another? I sincerely do not know. But what I do know is that as per consumer protection law, it is a prerogative to pay only what is set on the menu. Should the price change, it is the duty of the restaurant to update said menu or at least have the decency to inform the customer of said update PRIOR TO PAYING. Also I must point out that on every occasion we never received the detailed bill with each item and their respective price but rather the bank bill with only the total amount to be paid. It is the first time I faced such a rude and irrational attitude from a person. I was told to “ferme ta gueule“ (shut the F*** up in french) and “ale donne deposition la police si to lai“ (go make a police deposition if you want, we don't care in creole) amongst other insults. Anyways, the food is decent but BE CAREFUL WHEN PAYING.More

Went there for the first time on 28th November 2020, was one among my best experience, being 1 waitress, I can understand how hard it is for the workers, but they gave their best, the food was simply awesome, and I really appreciate the waitress...works, the service was so good for a small restaurant and the menu was so huge and so exciting, there was a lot of choice and all of them was tempting, I actually hate soup, my fiancé forced me to have a Chinese soup, and now am a fan of there soup, hats off to you, keep it on, I'll surely go back there 😍😍More

We have been recommended this restaurant by the locals and we were not disappointed. We had the local bol renversé and other local Mauritian Chinese food! It took long before our order arrived but we were not disappointed. The view is perfect since the restaurant...faces the beach. We had several Chinese dishes around Mauritius and we found this to be our favorite. Worth a try if you want to taste the local Chinese food !More

We ordered from the Mauritian food part of the menu and it was very tasty! I would go back. It was a very basic restaurant but was more than adequate for a lunch in the middle of the week.

Chinese food like one has it in the West, with lots of MSG... Friendly enough though there was a slight mix up with the order which was only resolved when I agreed to eat what I hadn't actually ordered.

Great sea food to be experienced here! Prawns and the hot pot are great dishes to try. The hot pot you will find salted fish with chicken and it's very tasty There's another dish which is a specialty of just this restaurant. It's a sizzling...lamb speciality which you will not find anywhere else Do try this great dish! Prices very affordable too! Don't miss out on this great place!More

There seems to be a theme that after 4 days in flic en flac staff at the restaurants are quite surly and appear to be unhappy in their jobs, staff here no different. We did enjoy the food, it was very good however, average prices...it seems compared to others.More
