When I was researching where to stay on Langkawi, Pantai Tengah was the logical place. It’s the central area where most of the hostels and hotels are, as well as where the restaurants and tour offices are located. But one area came to my attention,...Kuala Teriang. This was suggested as a less crowded and more relaxed area of the island to be. This was less commercial being 15 mins drive from Pantai Tengah. Also, the area is populated by locals and a number of expats with private boats and yachts that are lease out for touring to visitors. I selected Purple Haze Tavern because of reviews that this place was a nice relaxing place and others generally enjoyed their stays here. I booked a private room and had doubts because of the lack of air conditioning. There only fans here. Which actually was not needed. The days were hot, as were anywhere on the island. But Purple Haze is right next to the water and the evenings were much cooler. A fan was very sufficient. The location isn’t central to restaurants, but it is much closer to all the places you’d want to visit. The 7 Wells Waterfall is only a 10 min by scooter or Grab. That’s also where the Oriental Village, SkyCab, and Sky Bridge are locates. Just a tides north is the Temurun Waterfalls located and right next to it, Skull Beach. It’s slightly closer to Pantai Tanjung Rhu, the take off area for Mangrove boat tours. Mt. Raya and the Durian Perangin Waterfall are also closer. My mornings and daylight hours were spent exploring the island’s sites and attractions; while evening were spent enjoying the chats with local expats as they often came over to the Purple Haze for some Tiger beers. There was a bbq when I stay here too, which was like a potluck. The nearby restaurants are very affordable as they catered to locals and priced accordingly; which is much less than those that catered to tourists in Pantai Tengah. The experience was definitely off the beaten path and a unique one that most do experience. A note, though...I read about issues of mosquitoes in this area of the island. This is true, there are more; but the Purple Haze provides mosquito coils to use in there dorm rooms and private room. It wasn’t a problem for me at all. The nights were mosquito free and I was not bitten once.More

Came here for two nights and still haven’t left! This place is a magical vortex, once you get here you won’t want to leave. Adrian and Tina are the best hosts and the atmosphere is so relaxed and it feels more like communal living than...a hostel. The kitchen is fully equipped, the beer is cold and the people that drift in and out each night to hang out are super friendly. There is an awesome outside area where you can watch amazing sunsets whilst chilling in a hammock and plenty of space if you want to do yoga or practise poi etc... It’s set back from the Main Street so it’s like it’s own little world away from everything. If you get the chance, stay at purple haze. You won’t regret it :-).More

It is with great sadness I write this review as I have now left purple haze :( I booked for 3 nights and ended up staying for 21 nights. Another girl did the same and 4 guys also extended there stay by 10 nights. This...alone should speak for itself about how special this place is. It was more like a community than a hostel and Adrian and Tina are 2 of the bests hosts and 2 of the best people I've had the pleasure to meet in my 8 years of travelling. Stay here and experience it you won't regretMore

At this time (November 2017) Purple Haze was not in Telaga Harbour. You are right. It moved to a different location and I had to wait for an update on Google Maps. Now we are located in Jalan Kuala Muda as a chillout spot, Hostel...More

We first met Adrian whilst he was first skipper on Damai Indah with Captain Eva. He and his staff do a great job at Purple Haze. Happy hour and snacks are amazing. We'll definitely be returning over the next 8 days.

Just what it says above - there's also a pool table, and plenty of seats if its good weather. Not many inside if you get some tropical rain, but not a real problem. Very friendly and helpful staff, with good tips on what to do...around here. 90 seconds from the Danna, so great to go to for some variety.More

Good place to chill and they will serve up just about any music you have in mind. Food is good and drinks are reasonable for this area. Believe they are only open late afternoon till into the evening. No plastic accepted so bring Ringets.

We stayed at The Danna hotel next door and this bar was a great escape by the harbour. Adrian the owner really knew how to entertain - after a few nights we seemed to know all the locals! Definitely worth dropping by for a game...of pool anytime of the day or night.More

What a cool and funky bar, right on the beach front! The owner Adrian is fabulous and his staff friendly and attentive. The drinks are great value and the food was fab. You can chill out and drink the night away, take in the view,...play pool and enjoy the eclectic music. Such a great find! So pleased we met Adrian! This bar is right next to the Danna hotel and only 20 minutes from the Datai!More

What we ate was superb, especially the fat Elvis burger and amazing spring rolls. Slightly limited on the menu options as they had run out of stuff. Great location and pretty cheap.
