I visited this place to accompany my friend from India, who is a vegetarian. Due to late hour we were said that only sets are available. It was fine with me because I didn't know much about this cuisine. I never thought that vegetarian food can be so tasty! And the service was very good too. We even stayed there... More

A simple little restaurant with simple food. Great place for vegetarian food, the food you would find in the home, no wild colours or blow your mind spiciness. Closes at 8 and doesn't serve alcohol, which doesn't bother me but I know does others. Will go again.

Govinda's Vegetarian Cafe at 39 Ablai Han Street is the best .. if not the only .. pure vegetarian cafe in Almaty. It's a Krishna establishment, mellow vibes, sweet kids serving and tasty wholesome lacto veg meals. They are also working on adding more vegan items to their menu and have assured me that within the next year they will... More

Tasty, healthy food. Prices are ok, service is normal (some English is spoken). Working hours are early (closes at 8pm daily), so don't expect to be able to go for an evening dinner. We had the set menu and couple of main dishes and, for 2 people, were over-faced. But doggie bags are an option!

As stated, a very safe vego option in a whole region of meat-heavy cuisine. The set menu will fill the hungriest of people for relatively cheap. Has a nice quiet feel. Note: google maps shows the wrong address if trying to find by map. If you end up near the train station, turn around and walk about a kilometre South.... More

It's a rather good place for Indian food lovers. I think it's the only place in Almaty where you can practically feel that special atmosphere. My friend and I enjoyed it so much. The food is very nice, and the ladies in Indian outfit are very affable. So, I really enjoyed being there.

I've been to several veggie cafes in Russia, with either Indian and European cuisine, but this place in Almaty still beats them all in terms of the main thing - the FOOD (but I must admit, Rada & Co. in St.Petersburg comes pretty close). My first visit to Govinda's was something like four or five years ago, I haven't been... More
