Whenever I get the chance to pass by Ibusuki, I usually take the detour, because it is worth every bite. AND whenever I need to send gifts to foodie-friends, this is the place I turn to since they do ship domestically. Knowing that there are...no preservatives, coloring, or chemicals used like other commonly sold meats in supermarkets, I feel less guilty when eating them. I would like to eat at their cafe one day, too. I think this is a great stop during your trip through the mountain.More

While you can find some of Ibusuki's food in town at Bayern or Sailer Bakery in Fukuoka, the factory up in the hills is simply a magical place to discover a true German-style sausage on a bun, or a true German cold-cut sandwich with authentic...meats. The ham and sausage are made right there on the premises. The cafe menu offers a few choices, with the W (double) hot dog being the most memorable, since it practically a sinful amount of sausage served on a single bun. A must, for the seriously hungry. While I crave these truly extraordinary specialty items, I have one small complaint, or rather a wish. The hot dog condiments seem to be limited to a single packet of mustard and ketchup that you squeeze together to drip onto your hot dog. Given the amazing quality of the meats, I'd be so happy if they would offer a condiment bar, or at least a choice of mustards. Please note that Ibusuki is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Have driven up into the mountains more than a few times only to find that the shop is not open. The cafe section is open from 11:00-15:00, which make it perfect for a lunch stop on a drive through the mountains. If you're an hour outside of that on either end, you can head into the shop and choose from an array of meats and German foods to bring home from 10:00-16:00.More
