Very nice Saga beef (Wagyu) restaurant. Meat quality excellent, you can either grill it yourself on the table or eat as Shabu Shabu. Pricey for Saga but the meat quality is worth it. Waiters and employees extremely nice and helpful.

It is a do-it-yourself tenpanyakki. We had the Kira special lunch set. The meat taste very good. If you drive, just park opposite the restaurant. The staff are very polite, friendly and speaks limited English. Just point at the menu or food to order and...communicate. The restaurant closes very punctual at 3pm. Strictly no orders after 2pm.More

Saga beef, to me, is the best beef in Japan. Beautiful marbling, fatty, melt in your mouth, flavourful. Kira does it best and serves quality beef, don't hesitate to try the beef sushi! While the food may be pricey, the food is definitely worth the...money and the queue!More

We wanted to try this restaurant when we booked the trip and I have tried to reserve the table on line and they do not allow said they can only accept booking by hotel. so, we have asked our hotel to book the restaurant and...the hotel reply, it can only be booked by the hotel in restaurant area. Anyway, at the end we went to the one in Tosu for lunch. we order two different types of beef, the Saga one and the local farmer one, and we think the difference in quality is minimal. The beef was good, but I have had better. We went there on a Sat at 1:30 and do not need to wait for a table. However, service was good and most staff can speak English.More

FYI, NO photography allowed in Teppanyaki area (with SIGNS displayed, not sure about the rest of the entire place) I have been to Kira Hakata 3 times and Kira Ginza once in the past, I would say Kira Honten is the BEST among all three...based on food freshness, quality, ambiance and most important: service. I went there for solo teppanyaki dinner two nights in a row. There is a separated waiting room for teppanyaki customers. Once my seat was available, the server took me to teppanyaki area. This hall is very open but quiet filling with light scent from fresh lilly. The teppanyaki chef was very skillful cutting and preparing my food, NO onion volcano or knife throwing/chopping show (which showed this is a real high end teppanyaki place). Dishwares are all premium pottery lines from Arita-yaki. Beautiful!! Most produces are from Saga with a few exceptions from Kyushu. Everything was very delicious including desserts & coffee (what a surprise!) Service is really top notch! This is the best dining experience compared with other worldwide Michelin star restaurants i have been to in the past. Actually i didn't know this place got any star until now. My water glass was always full, and the server always refilled my sake glass. He speaks good english and we had no communication issue at all. I can tell he was little nervous serving me the first night (fyi, single woman dining alone in high end restaurants is rare in Japan) but he was very comfortable the second night. He offered recommendations on teppanyaki course and cut of beef to make sure i got a chance to sample both great cut they offer. We ever chatted a little about my dining and travel experience in the rest of Japan. The whole experience made my solo Japan trip very memorable and forget the rude treatment from other Japanese business in Tokyo! I definitely must go to this place again when i visit Saga!More

I traveled a long way from Hakata to take the wagyu beef here. I arrived at around 1315 hrs on a weekday but still need to wait for almost an hour to be seated. Lunch is at a bargain price and I tried two different...types of beef menu. The most expensive one and a less expensive one. The top wagyu beef at the lunch menu is worth the price and together with my son, we ordered four dishes of beef finally. The also served with vegetables, unlimited rice and a very nice green tea cake. We spent around a thousand dollars for lunch and it’s value for money.More

Contrary to other reviewers, i found their service to be excellent! You just have to be aware that almost all of the servers do not speak English, and the culture of dining is different from Western. We are so glad we made the trip to...Saga to try this out. If you don't have a reservation, i suggest you go there early for lunch.More

the saga beef is excellent, melts in your mouth. lunch set met at 3000-5000 ish, is probably the best value for money ever. while they do not accept reservation, the queue is orderly and reasonable. we waited about 15min, arriving at 1pm on a weekday.

Pros Good food nice environment Cons Horrible services There is a Chinese waiter who is terribly impolite. He come and clean up the table when we are eating/ cooking/ chatting without asking us. His attitude is very bad towards customer. And keep staring and commanding...to us. This is the worst service experience I ever had in Japan. Be aware when you come.More

We went for lunch given we had booked dinner with onsen. The saga sirloin was surprisingly more expensive and taste softer than saga waga beef. We ordered 2 set lunch plus a la carte another piece of sirloin, and got so full the whole day....It offered 5% discount if you have a Kyushu JR pass.More
