My partner and I were starving and at 18:30 we realised that a lot of restaurants close around 19:30. We walked into town at 19:00 after just arriving & found this little restaurant and saw that it was open until 21:30. We opened the door and the first thing we were greeted/screamed at was “wait outside” we were quite shocked and before we knew it we were then asked to come in. Unfortunately everywhere else in Gora shuts between 18:30 - 19:30 for dinner so we had no choice. We waited for a full hour for our food to be cooked in front of us and there was no need for it to take that long as there was only 8 people in the whole place. During this time people continued to come in as it was the only open restaurant and were screamed at to wait outside & quite a lot of people just walked off. The food was amazing if you don’t mind waiting for an hour and with extremely rude service!

This restaurant over the tracks from Gora station reliably opened at 6.00pm. Whilst there were a few tables I sat at the counter being a solo diner and had okonomiyaki and a draught beer for 1350 yen. It wasn't difficult to find once I had read clues from earlier reviewers. I went a second night and had another okonomiyaki - this time with bay scallops, squid and prawns for another 200 yen- delicious. Service was quick, the food was enjoyable and I could watch the cooking process.

We found this place on TripAdvisor- we just managed to get in as it got full and owner started turning people away. It's Cody, clean and the service was friendl. . We sat at the bench and could watch the cook in action - okonomiyaki is the specialty along with fried noodles - we loved it! we did wait about 20 mins for the food but it was well worth it. Recommend this place for a quick authentic bite. Nice cold beer on tap too.

A cute little restaurant that is just a few steps from the station. The family management is very nice and helpful although like many restaurants in Japan they do not speak very good English. The setting is very typical but with very few seats but the food was delicious, okonomiyaki gorgeous and very tasty side dishes. Also One of the few here open until ten, Highly recommended!

Unnecessarily rude people. Spoils your day when the rest of Hakone can be very pleasant. Wouldn't advise to spend a cent here. They obviously don't need it

I went to this little restaurant on our hotels advice. I walked in with my 11 year old daughter and was told to get out. No discussion, no reason. I tried to ask for a table for two. The cook and apparent owner yelled at us to get out. There were people inside eating and it wasn’t late. I am still completely stumped as to why he would treat anyone like this. We left, and found he had treated others just like us. Since travelling in Japan we have only experienced the wonderful culture and people. Unfortunately a rude and surprising wake- up call in Gora.

We had a visit in Hakone and stopped by Gora for a night. Didnt know that restaurants here closed so early so our dinner started at Gaji, one of a very few late open restaurants. The restaurant was not very busy at the beginning, yet only the owner could speak English and an old lady helped out. He told us to wait then went back to prepare dinner for other guests, understandable. After a few try with my lilte Japanese, I went to order with the old lady. The wait was quite long but it was alright as the restaurant became busy ( only 4 tables). The owner did not even smile, just throwing us stare when we asked for a question. Once finished, we paid and the money was a bit unexpected so I asked for the receipt and he said No. I asked if i could look at how he calculated and immediately he showed his impatience and just turned around We went outside and decide to get back in to check again, the man saw us coming and waiting but he just ignored us. He calculated the order again and kept putting some amount of money we didnt know. One of the meal we asked for a little bit more soup, and he put ÂĄ50 for the extra. Then he recalculated, raise the price of one meal and changed the soup price to ÂĄ100 It was not a big money, yet how he calculated the order, showed his impatience, threw the calculator back in the draw and got annoyed, all these things made us feel very unwelcome Food is nice, yet as for a cook, and an owner, the attitude to guests is very unacceptable. Never ever come back and recommend anyone here

Not many places remain open after 6 in Gora, and we were lucky to find this little gem--mainly because Trip Advisor has its location wrong! It's located right behind the train station about a block up on the right, just after you cross the tracks. Only a small white sign out front hints that there's a restaurant behind the door. But do go in! The owner speaks English well and cooks his specialties even better. Dinner for two with sake and two beers was JPN 3480. We were totally satisfied. Go for it.

Finally found the unpretentious place after going round and round for more than half an hour using the google map directions based on address given here. Asked a train station personel who just pointed to the opposite side of the Gora train station/train tracks). Mr. Kaji and we presumed is his mother were manning this quaint little shop that is a truly a hidden gem not only of Gora but in my view Hakone as well. Best okonomiyaki and yaki-ramen we have ever tasted during our several trips to Japan. There is no menu in English but of course the specialty is the pancake japanese style with either pork, shrimp and/or squid. Must try. Mr. Kaji does stir fried vegetable, mushroom and scallop ('hotate') with butter. I asked Mr Kaji for the address or a card and he wrote on a piece a paper which I am attaching here for those who are interested. Very reasonable prices.

In the Gora area, you are lucky to find most restaurants open after 6pm, which is really inconvenient. This place doesn't open until 6pm which seems far more sensible. However, don't leave it too late as the first night we got there at 7.50, it was full of locals and they had run out of food! The second night we took no chances and arrived at 6.15. No English menu, but we got by using the Google translate app. Both went for the Pancakes, as this seemed to be what people were eating the night before. So glad we did, they were exquisite, and so much cheaper than the mostly uninspiring food on nearby (closed!) restaurants. I had one with squid and my partner had a porky one. Beautifully served, with bonito flakes on top, and tasted even better than in looked. This place should be much higher on TA. It doesn't help that it is not in the right place on the map. It is SO easy to find, as it can be seen from Gora station. There is a row of souvenir shops by the station, keeping these on your right, cross over the rails and turn left so you are walking parallel to the rails on the other side of the track. About 25 metres on your right is a restaurant, the sign outside is not in English, but it is the only one there. Do not miss this!

About 1 hours++ at night with empty stomach tried to find this place. The map indicates the wrong way lead us to (i dont know ) maybe onsen or bnb, the nice owner help us to call (via telp)... After he called, surprise, he told us the okonomiyaki located near gora station., we searching2 like hiking until near koen kami ( we depart from gora station), LOL. Yummy okonomiyaki!! Try seafood okonomiyaki, squid okonomiyaki, better than pork okonomiyaki. But pork still good too =D PS= in gora station go straight where the are many restaurants, then turn left, it located in the main road. Info= No english menu. Open daily 6 pm to 11 pm. If you arrived in that location in the morning about 10.30am , after turn left, then turn right . Try lunch tofu at ginkatsutei . Be careful of the long queue ...

Besides opening late (until over 11PM!!), unlike every other place in Gora, this is an amazing little gem to try their specialty: the okonomiyaki. It's an show per se to watch the cook do several of them at once. Pity this places is not that well known, but it's really close from the train station and has a nice atmosphere. Do not miss if in Gora!!
