The curry was really delicious. But when we asked for salt they just answered that we should eat it as such. Regardless of how they think we should eat it, you don't refuse such request from a customer. What kind of customer service is that?

Small restaurant serving 4 types of curry, and different options for the serve of rice. The menu is in Japanese, but the staff talk you through it. Nice beer, the curry was excellent, has a bit of spice and kick to it, we opted for...vegetable - cabbage.More
Great food! Although there is no English menu available- the staff help you order. The portions were huge and delicious. Best curry we've had in Japan. The atmosphere is cozy and amazing. We were seated at one of two chabudai and listened to some really...good music. The staff were all very friendly and helpful.More
This will be one of my food highlights in Japan. There is no English menu but it is quite easy to choose: curry and rice, you only choose the meat: chicken, pork or beef. We had the chicken (fried) and the beef. We both chose...medium spicy and medium size. The spice level was excellent and medium was a good portion. Both curries were delicious. The curries are on a different level from every curry I've ever had before. You can taste a really sweet curry, the meat has got a caramelised taste, the chicken was fried perfectly, very tasty, not dried at all. The skin of the chicken was delicious. This was a mouth watering curry. I highly recommend to eat there when visiting Takayama. The staff is very friendly, the place is great and plays some really good old school rocky tunes. Thank you chef Jakson!More
For Jap curry lovers, you may wish to add Jakson Curry to your to-do list when you are in Takayama. The sauce is unique and not something you can find in most restaurants.
This place has super tasty curry rice. I had been craving a local curry rice and never found anything that quite hit the spot. This one definitely did! It is so full of taste and the chicken was cooked spot on. My partner and I...had the fried chicken mild curry and we recommend it. It is not very spicy, but Japanese curries are usually mild. I don't get why quite a few people say their service is rude. They just set the expectations from entering the restaurant: one curry portion per person (no sharing allowed basically) and they do curry only. Some cultures are used to changing the menu to their own taste. Traditional Japanese restaurants don't do that. As long as you understand that you'll be fine and you'll find their service is absolutely lovely.More
When you walk in the waitress says “excuse me sir but we only serve curries and rice”... she’s underselling it. I had a beef curry and it is probably the best curry I’ve ever had in my life, the flavor and presentation was superb. Very...different from a ‘typical’ curry which can be heavy and stodgy, I’ve never had anything quite like it. To top it off the chef is also very friendly, making this a great place to dine out even if your solo. Prices also very reasonable.More
Not sure what negative review was about not welcoming tourists, we got a great welcome and enjoyed our visit and the food. There are 4 currys ie pork, beef, chicken and vegetable and it comes with vegetables and rice. It was very tasty, reasonably priced...and filling. Not easy to find and don’t be put off by this or the ‘humble’ look to the place.More
They don’t let us in despite so many empty table, what a disappointment. They should write big notice at the front door: No Tourists or only Japanese. Don’t waste your time to come in this Restaurant
Curry was a tad too sweet for my liking. No doubt jap curry is usually sweeter but this is a little too sweet. Pork was fried well and tasty though. Medium spicy is not spicy at all. Flavour is prob more suited for non asians
Wonderful dinner in a place that look like it has been there for decades . Great food and service. Would go again.
Wow we loved this small restaurant. We visited as a family of four and had a table at the back. They have other tables where you have to take your shoes off. They do not have an English menu which is fine as the lovely...lady came to us and explained the choices well. Vegetarian, chicken or pork then how hot you want it very spicy, medium or plain then how much rice you want. It was very easy to order as they help you through the menu. The curry was excellent accompanied by a small tasty salad. They continually fill up the very cool water and ice for you. We had beer with our curry. I highly recommend this place for a great curry. It was well presented and fast and the staff were so friendly .More
We almost didn't eat here after reading the previous reviews about rude staff. Finally we decided to come based on our guide's recommendation and we are very happy we did! The staff was not rude at all. The waitress was young woman who spoke a...little English but enough to be understood. Right when we entered she explained very politely that they only serve curry and that each person must order a dish. All very understandable. The curry was very good and we highly recommend this place.More
I found it ironic that the proprietors chose a Western name (Jackson often pronounced “Jakuson”) and played New Orleans boogie woogie the whole time we were there but were so rude to my family of 4 visiting from the US from the time we entered...the door. A disheveled lady met us at the door and angrily indicated we would each need to order an entree (ok, that’s what we usually do), no sharing I guess. We know curry and easily placed our order using the same terminology Japanese would use, my point being that there really wasn’t any reason for her to be so “triggered” to borrow a term from my teenagers! The curry was good but no better than other places we’ve tried. The restaurant was one of the drabbier, less clean establishments we’ve been to in Japan and given that it’s the only place in Japan where we haven’t been met by incredibly gracious and accommodating hosts, I wouldn’t recommend it.More
Unbelievably rude! Waitress meet us on the street and told us that we could not come in and we were also not allowed to wait. The only reason I have given one star is because it is the lowest possible. We have spent a fair...amount of time in Japan and I have never been meet with such a rude and unfriendly attitude before. Avoid at all costs.More
