Being there for few times. I would say that this is still my No 1 eel restaurants though I have tried few other similar restaurants before in Nara, Tokyo & Osaka. A must-try at Nagoya, we went for dinner at the restaurant on the 10/F at Matsuzakya then to find out that there was a two-hour wait, we decided to visit their takeaway stall down at the basement food hall. Love eel and this restaurant was obviously rated number one on trip advisor. I don't really have many eel restaurants to compare to but the main dish was good and definitely worth a try. My experience was a disaster. Hitsumabushi is the signature dish of this renown restaurant of Nagoya. The grilling style, the soup, the sauce, all combination makes every dishes perfect. The portion of one set suits for one to two people. I visited this place with a friend and we really enjoyed it!

The restaurant was very nice! Hitsumabushi was delicious you should try it! Although I went two times because the first time they had one hour waiting, it was totally worth it!

Agree with the good reviews. This is a great, accessible (by subway) place to experience traditional smoked eel of Nagoya. The information pamphlet is a lot of help and don't be afraid to ask your neighbouring table about the food. By the way, eel is rich so one dish is enough for two - we had chicken on the side.

The food was terrific as was the service. This is a very popular place in Nagoya and for good reason. Great eel glad I came and experienced this cuisine!

At first glance, you, who do not eat much, might be worried a bit. It is full 3-bowl(chawan) of rice with superb Kabayaki on it.There is a leaflet on the table which instructs you how to eat in the adequate way. I had the first portion of hitsumabushi as is. It was neither too sweet nor full of little bones, but barbecued excellently to add a fragrant depth to its flavour.
