I am always a bit suspicious about a place that is so popular. Sometimes the reputation can get ahead of the experience. The unagi is good - no question. But so is the unagi I had last month in a nondescript restaurant under the railway line in Osaka. The service is good, but not what I would call friendly. Unagi... More

Title says it all Pros: 1. Awesome eel meal that allows you to enjoy it in 3 ways - all in one serving. 2. English menu available for foreigners 3. There is also an accompanying "How to enjoy your eel meal 3 ways" instuction guide. Very helpful for those who want to experience dining the Japanese way Cons: 1. Be... More

This was our first visit in Nagoya, we visited the restaurant at 1:30pm and was surprised many people still queuing for the meal. It did not take much longer time to move the queue. We ordered the unagi donburi and we loved it. It was fantastic meal. Waitress were not friendly(no smile at all) but when you signal to refill... More

My wife and I went there after reading the posts and photos. The food was worth the trip to Nagoya alone! Heavenly cooked eel fish w/ yummy rice. Expensive price in Nagoya standard but again every penny is worth it. My only complain is the service which appears to be a Nagoya thing.

The quality of food and service is excellent! I used to eat Ill Grill with rice before but it's totally different from here. I order 3,600 yen Hitsumabushi set, it is the most expensive one i had. The price is high but you pay what you get.

Tried this restaurant upon checking places to eat at Nagoya using Tripadvisor. Went there on a Monday at 2pm and only waited for 10mins but have to sit at tatami room which was ok. My brother in law was there a day before me and waited from 11.30am-1.15pm due to lunch crowd, so it'll be more wise to choose a... More

Go early around 5pm. If not the que after 6pm is super long! The best unagi don i have tried so far. Portions was a lot that you can try more than 4 ways of eating as being taught. I love all the 4 ways of eating as they all each have their own taste and best thing is, its... More

Made it to this restaurant on weekday, 2:20pm. There were no waiting queue! Last order was at 2:30pm. Ordered the standard set. Was very nice and had a charcoal smokyness at 1st bite. 3 ways of eating the eel and my preference was the 2nd method. Highly recommend that you give it a try.

I had such high expectations after reading the reviews, however the meal was good but not amazing, the portions are hugh a lot of rice, so you can order the main eel dish to share! Don't make the same mistake as us!

Nagoya has its own style for Unagi (between Tokyo and Osaka). This 140 year old restaurant is reputed to be the best. It has 3 locations and the one in Matsuzakaya Department Store is closest and most convenient to Nagoya Station. I had a full set and the Unagi was charcoal grilled to perfection with a very tender, fresh texture... More
