Anytime I come to Nagoya I always go to ANtica Roma. The service is friendly and have good knowledge about the food and wine. I have tried many of the dishes and was never dissatisfied. Always excellent. Antica Roma has some of the best wines...Italy has to offer. The wine and food is authentic because it is directly imported from Italy. It’s not one of those cheap pasta house s but with the high quality and great service it’s very worth the while going. As an extra down starts is a beautiful wine cellars that sell wines and imported food such as dry pasta, cheese and other Italian goodies at retail prices.More

What would you expect in a special meal for 5 adults that cost 42,400 yen? I am still asking myself this question after tonight’s puzzling dining experience. After arriving at the restaurant, I asked the host to recommend the best of what they have on...the menu for my family. I said pick whatever you want but make it good as the menu is large and this is ranked #1 on TripAdvisor. I told him to give us the best they have to offer. He said how about an antipasto dish, a vegetable cream soup, 2 pastas (gorgonzola gnocchi and vegetable ravioli that are homemade), a beef with porcini mushroom, and a dolce for 8,000 yen per person, and I said sure but make sure the courses are good. And then I asked how was the lasagne and he said it was good and that he could add it to our pasta course. When the antipasto dish arrived I thought it was a bit strange. In the middle were maybe 3 leaves of lettuce with olives, and surrounding that on a square plate were 4 bite-sized things including a small roll of salmon, a slice of mortadella with cheese, some vegetarian tart, and some julienned vegetables that looked like a slaw. This was the quality of unsold lunch from 7-Eleven. The vegetable cream soup tasted like green pea soup; it was not warm. Then each of us had a dollop of 3 pastas... of which there were 4-5 gnocchis, 3 raviolis, and a small slice of lasagne. And then after waiting a long time, the beef that came out was small, round, tough, cooked to almost well done, less than 100g, slathered with some lukewarm mushroom sauce. Finally, for dessert we had peach gelato that had no peach taste, and a bite of tiramisu. Other than standard bread and olive oil (which I believed was further charged as a cover), and tea/coffee to go with dessert, there was nothing else. The final bill came out to be 48,400 yen (about $457 USD). We didn’t have any alcohol or soft drinks with the meal, so this was purely just for food. Was it worth 9,680 yen/person? No way - I could have had comparable Italian from the frozen food section of a 7-Eleven for a fraction of the price. Given that this is what was the best the restaurant had to offer, I don’t think anyone should spend a single yen here. Give this restaurant a pass. It was the worst valued Italian restaurant I have ever been to in Japan, and unless Nagoya just has terrible Italian food, there is no way that this restaurant should be ranked #1. The owner may be from Rome but the staff told me the chef was from Peru and trained in Germany to learn how to cook Italian. I’m sure he is a good chef but somewhere between intent and delivery, the staff oversold and the kitchen underdelivered... by a long long long shot, making this guest feeling totally cheated.More

I’ve loved this restaurant since I first went there many years ago. As a long term resident of Japan stepping inside Antica Roma was always a wonderful escape to the Italy I adore. Everything is wonderfully authentic, the food is exquisite and the service is...superb. The Italians are the world masters at making their guests feel welcome and Antica Roma is so much like being in Italy that stepping outside afterwards has you expecting to see Lambrettas whizzing past. This is a top quality restaurant which I thoroughly recommend.More

After a full week of Japanese lunch & dinner - sometimes even breakfast - Antico Roma is a great place to go to. Really fantastic food as in italy : fine, pure and honest! We had the bruchetta with garlic to start, pastas as primi...piatti and risotos as next course. Fine taste and very pure. A good bottle of red wine and to finish we got a limoncello. Grandissimo! The wine goes from very honest european price (already a tasty wine) to the top wines at top prices. Check out the wine cellar! Incredibile! Michael- BelgiumMore

I wandered in with colleagues after a long working day. I was immediately greeted by the amazing staff and incredible aroma of baked pizza. Excellent wine selection, great food! But when my pizza arrived, my expectations continued to be exceeded. The crust was crisp and...the elements worked together perfectly!!. Can't wait to eat here again!More
