Definitely a place to try if you are in Nagoya. It was recommended to me by coworkers, who were kind enough to recommend I show up before they opened. They take limited reservations, and by ten minutes before opening there was already a line and a 25 minute wait. Worth it. Be prepared to sit on the tatami mats and... More

Arriving very early in the evening we tried to avoid the long queue but still having to wait about 30 minutes before getting in, and fortunately we got the last parking spot too so we could wait in the car or have to endure the cold outside. The setting is more traditional Japanese house, with us seated in a room... More

Went there at 1pm and was given a 2.10pm reservation. The hitsumabushi is definitely unique, fresh eel grilled wt an excellent umami sauce that just leaves you wanting for more. No fishy smell at all (for those who don't like unagi because of it) and it goes so well wt rice.

The place was full even we were there at 2pm. Had tatami sitting. The unagi was very good . There's 4 ways of eating it. There's a guide to assist you for full enjoyment of the meal.

This restaurant is situated on the 10th floor of the dept store just next to the subway. We arrived at 1230 pm and there were around 30 people ahead of us in the queue. Fortunately the queue moved quickly and we were seated after about 25 minutes. We ordered the hitsumabushi set (3600 yen) and were completely awed by the... More

My family and I went to the restaurant at about 11am when they opened and already there was a queue outside the restaurant. Seeing both locals and tourist queuing for the restaurant we knew we would be in for a treat. Horaiken did not disappoint, it was definitely the best eel bowl I've ever had. The eel was charcoal grilled,... More

The greatest eel I ever had! The flavor was mild and the skin was a bit crispy which made a great match! The only thing was that I waited for 2 hours in line lol

At Atsuta Horaiken Honten, they've been serving eel since 1873, so you can be pretty sure that they know what they are about. Order the regular size, regular Hitsumabushi eel meal. You won't need a bigger one. Even the big, hungry lads with me were replete after this. Get some instruction on how to enjoy the dish, dividing the eels... More

This restaurant has an excellent reputation for serving one of the best eel rice in Japan. I visited the Sakae branch on my previous visit so this time I really wanted to try out this one. Two of us arrived after the lunch peak hour and thankfully didn't have to wait at all to secure a table. English menu is... More

Not like a usual "Una-don," you can enjoy three types of eating way and tastes. First, "Una-don," grilled over the high heat with "Bincho-tan" (very hard and good quality charcoal), you can enjoy crispy but juicy Kabayaki. Second, by adding spices such as Wasabi horseradish and finely chopped leeks, you will experience, literally, another dish; rich in flavor. Third, pouring... More
