This restaurant has all of the elements that you would be looking for for a fine dining experience. Excellent location, cozy decor, professional and friendly service, awesome food and great wines. The bread and butter was wonderful. We had a bowl of pasta fagioli which was so flavorful with tender pasta. My wife had the venison which was served medium rare and was the most delicious cut of meat. I had the veal Boscaiola which had a beautiful flavorful sauce. It was extremely tender. Whe had a reasonably price bottle of Chianti.
The owner Frank works the restaurant to assure things run smoothly and his wife is the chef in the kitchen making all of this wonder cuisine. Their daughter Christine waited on us and did a perfect job.
We make a special effort to stay an addition night in Buffalo just to dine in this restaurant.
You need to definitely put this restaurant on your must experience. It will not disappoint!

Went with my wife for our anniversary for the first time. We did not know where we wanted to go that was different so we did a bit of research. The reviews were all very good to excellent especially with regard to atmosphere. We took a stab at it. We are happy we did.
Though it does not look like much from the outside, on the inside it was absolutely true. The owner does meet you personally at your table if not at the door and the music they play in the background is both peaceful and pleasant. So nice to go to a place where the music did not require you to raise your voice to be heard even w me being a bit hard of hearing especially to background noice. The decor is very nice for lack of a better term at the moment. And the food selection was unique. So much so that it got us both to purchase desserts even though we had not intended to. The food itself that we had was either Very good to excellent.
I’d highly recommend this place though it is a bit pricey. Still I have been in pricier ones but few, if any, that were better.

This is THE place to go to celebrate an occasion, to meet important people in your life, or to have an intimate dining experience. The specials are all creatively arranged with the desire to bring nuance to traditional dishes, and welcome surprises to the diner. For example, the polenta appetizer was set in a wonderful salad with truffle oil. The ravoli were stuffed with cheese and topped with truffles. We had the Chilean sea bass, and it was a special for the night. The fish was delicate, fresh and lightly spiced. The desserts are to die for. This is memorable dining, with an attentive staff, wonderful food and a beautiful ambiance. Go here!

The staff was hospitable. The menu was interesting. But, sadly, the food was simply way too salty. Good food does not require that kind of sodium overdose. Perhaps more careful ordering might have produced a better result but each and every dish we ordered as heavily over salted.
This respected restaurant is temporarily and sadly off our list of favorites.

Phenomenal food! We have been here as a couple and have had our staff dinner here. The food is so good that you will dream about the next time you have it. Between the quality ingredients and the curated menu, you are hard pressed to find something that doesn't make you audible gasp. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fine Italian food at a wonderful price.

Don’t be fooled by the exterior appearance of this restaurant, once inside it is simply amazing. Where we were seated, it was like we were in a wine cellar, without the cold damp feeling. Food was amazing. Started with the ravioli stuffed with lobster in a sauce that was to die for. I could have just eaten a full meal of this dish. Then had the veal scalapini with prosciutto and mozzarella cheese with a side of pasta in a garlic oil sauce. Again, 10 out of 10. Definitely a must do when in Amherst.

Good friends mentioned to me that they had never been to San Marco; I had also not been there in quite some time. I called and made a reservation about 3 weeks in advance for Saturday, July 20 at 6:00 pm. We were very much looking forward to our evening there. We arrived at 5:45 pm and were not greeted but rather abruptly asked by the owner "can I help you with something?" I ignored the slight and told him I had a reservation for 6 pm and gave him the name it was under. He looked in a binder and announced there was not a reservation for my party; I was shocked. I have always been meticulous with my social planning. He had an annoyed attitude on from that point forward and never thought to mention that it may have been San Marco's error. Also, I believe he may have eliminated our reservation in order to accommodate regular customers with a late request for a table. After all, we were there at the most requested dinner time of the week, 6 pm on Saturday.
From previous visits, I can attest to the fact that the food is beyond outstanding as is the wine list. Too bad the owner has learned that he can be rude and arrogant and suffer no consequences. BE AWARE and check out the very few negative reviews on San Marco for other instances of this behavior.

This place is not what it used to be. Salty food, weird waiter, super loud in the restaurant, had to call 3x for a reservation because they never “had the book”. Last time we will ever go there.

Very nice meal at San Marco last night. Hadn't been here for long time. Beautiful room, lovely food, personable server. Yeah, the owner is not a warm friendly type, but I'd hardly call him "rude", as others have. Our server wasn't super attentive but I think that's only because she had too much to do. Hope to go back soon

This was the best Italian experience everyone at the table has ever had! The freshest ingredients, the best wine list, and homemade everything! RAVIOLI ALL’ARAGOSTA, BRESAOLA, QUAGLIE DEL CONTADINO, were to die for!

The food is lovely. However, our birthday celebration was tainted by the rude and arrogant owner. He was condescending and impatient. It is definitely not what I would expect in an establishment like this. I will take my business elsewhere.

Frank greets you at the door. His wife & all are all working just as hard
to make your meal, the best. The intimate dining...delicious wines...breads
make us feel like we're in a small town in Italy. Their seafood is fresh and
wonderful. Steaks are also prepared perfectly.There is not a salad that we
don't love. Thank you Frank.....but especially Mrs. Grimaldi...the chef!!

My husband brought me here for my birthday in April. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner. Fast forward 6 months and we decided to see if this establishment was consistent and made reservations for our wedding anniversary. From the greeting by Mr. Grimaldi and friendly wait staff to the most amazing menu selection; it was a perfect evening. When compared to the other “Top Italian Restaurants” in the area, San Marco’s is in a league of its own. Definitely the place to go for a special occasion. However, we may just stop in again when we are in the mood for a great meal.
